Yes but to hear some, they leave a smaller carbon footprint......................... isn't it splendid of them? (sarcastic tone)
OK too early in the morning to get angry. I get to teach social studies today. I really hope I don't have to sit through a propaganda film.... SS teachers always have to push their personal agenda.
That is the correct doublespeak use of the word personal. You could sit and whisper expletives and laugh like Richie Cunningham did at the Fonz, "Ha ha ha huh ho," while shaking your head in the negatory. Then, tell the kids you can't tell them why you're doing that because the thought police might prevent you from teaching again.
We have a big book controversy here. Some parents don't want their 15- and 16-year-old kids being required to read a Common Core book with adult content. They settled the matter by a vote. The tyranny of the majority said those wishing to exercise their religious liberties were outnumbered. So there.
What were we talking about?
Oh, yes. Has anybody else noticed how Justin's accent has migrated over the years?
Oh his accent slips out if he falls in with a DJ with similar proclivities. I love his accent, it sounds so Okie sometimes. My mom said the Westcountry accent is super easy to understand, but my Dad struggled with it........... being German extraction. Mum's family riddled with Welsh and Irish.
Anyway I wasn't too disturbed by yesterday's video offerings. I'm actually quite in the liberal camp when it comes to folks in Africa who can't get water. There's many "Peace Corps Type" organizations out there, around the world, who are helping rural Africans get simple things like water to their villages. Not all Africa is like that, but some is super poverty stricken.
One thing I did talk about to the kids, hope the teacher won't get bent out of shape, but in many of these poverty areas of the world, Indonesia, Africa etc... there is a cultural problem, in that families have these huge numbers of children, yet don't have the resources to feed them. The uneducated philosophy is, if I have a whole bunch of kids, maybe one or two will survive to adulthood. Seriously.
This is rabbit mentality. Mind you I don't mind folks who have large families (my brother had five, all very intelligent nice human beings too, and he worked his butt of raising them), but by george, it's tacky if you can't feed them, and have to lean on the welfare state to raise them. (The Octomom in California is a prime example of this sad mentality). Rabbits and rats also breed in large numbers, so they have a few offspring survive. I'm glad I'm not a rabbit.
Case in point: in the video, a woman in Africa had five children, and had to walk five miles every day to get water for cooking and drinking. I felt bad for her, but she wasn't realistic. Not to be a spoil sport, but maybe people need to figure out what makes babies, and not have so many. Works every time. Just an IMHO. Easier said that done, I suspect.
In Biology, this is called an r population strategy. The species who have a lot of babies at a time tend to be prey for the species who only have one or two at a time.
Folks squawk about "global warming and carbon footprints" but the fact is, if we bring energy to these rural areas, relative poverty will decline. Right now, these areas of extreme poverty have smaller carbon footprints, don't create pollution. So what do the liberals want, an end to poverty? Or smaller carbon footprints?
Several kids in the class also were of a mind that we should fix poverty issues in our own country, before we worry about poverty in Africa. I liked that thinking.
Might I recommend Johann Norberg's 'In Defense of Global Capitalism'? Here's a superbly sublime review.
http://www.thetribunepapers.co.....cts-greed/
I love Mr. Johann. Not only does he have cool hair and speak with a British occent, he is nice and will provide helpful information if you request it. His books explain simply principles lost on many policymakers. I agree with Norberg that the major cause of global poverty is tyranny. How long have we been sending not only food but scientists and engineers to third world countries? The World Bank rewards dictators with more funding when they show the last round of grants didn't lift their people to better economic circumstances.
The poor kids I know around here are spoiled brats - only twenty-some pairs of shoes and throwing away half their lunches demanding McDonald's. I can agree with your description of "r population strategy" empirically, in that rich politicians and bureaucrats, who typically have few children, keep people in poverty to get their votes.
Now, surely you do not advocate population control in the US. Who will pay your Social Security if we don't open our borders to rapidly-breeding populations?
Oh, and speaking of beautiful British occents, the first time I heard Justin in an interview, I wanted to have children with the radio. Can I say that?
Oh hush about Calcutta.
My mind is bouncing off the fact that Deramic Stereo was actually the first studio application of Dolby tech. Gotta write that up, will send it to you. It's all electronics....
DANG Justin comes out with mind bending stuff sometimes.
I have no desire to do something like that with a piece of electronic gear, tho some of my colleagues in the Navy accused me of similar acts when working on relays and gyros (you really had to twist yer body around and squeeze into some darn tight spaces when working on A4s... Top Gun my foooot) .... what was the sci fi movie about that.......... Colossus the Forbin Project? This computer rapes a woman..... long story but it was pretty creepy. I read the book. Stop that, you'll give me nightmares.
Yeah good interview that.

People keep themselves in poverty by over breeding their resources. IMHO. I could name two groups in America who have turned this around since I was a kid.... smaller families and greater success, higher standard of living. (I can just see wealthy people out there encouraging people to breed so they'll remain in poverty). I advocate no population control by the government whatsoever.... good heavens, do I look like a communist or something? I do advocate plugging in one's brain.
1. On "good interview that": Agreed. Any day with a Justin interview is good.
2. On "More": I thought I'd seen it all before. I really thought I knew. What?
3. On poverty: I say tyranny is the cause of poverty. Most people are really good and caring. If there is a natural disaster, we can contribute and mobilize provisions for the short-term. It is the stupid laws that stop assistance. It is stupid laws that prevent influx of technology to arrested-development countries. If we want to complain about single motherhood and studmuffins who run off after consigning their one-night-stands to lifelong poverty, I'm with you. I am not in a position to complain about girls who can't stop getting pregnant, as I have never had that problem.
4. On plugging in my brain: I lost my adapter. Where might I get a new one, and what are the critical specs? Note: I'm a little slow, as we used to have an engineer handle all our connectivity issues, back at the dream job. I don't even know how to query my brain to find it's number.
It's certainly a better guitar than Fender.............
Alas no good nuggets of history, just nice chat about how nice it would be to go on the cruise. Sure, if a pot of gold dropped out of the sky on my head, it would be nice. and if I could hyperwarp to Florida without having to fly there. All day.
Ooh. I loved it. I read it while holding with tech support, and had to laugh out loud several times.
At least he answered my question. Thank you, Mr. NSA Man for delivering my request for him to write us (taking credit where none is due, of course).
Me happy. Wheee! It was so good to hear from Justin. And to think, the people onboard have to pay through the nose to pick up internet and read his answers, and us lame losers back home get to read it over and over.
I want to try to write some questions, now, and see how badly he rips them apart. It's so funny because he's so right-on.
What? Shall we now analyze his lack of analysis? Why not. I’m still holding for tech support.
5-7, 28, 36, 41, 50. Ha ha ha ha. Not because they’re absurd, but because they are so true.
8. That’s a great talent. I have a hard enough time singing melody. He’s good at it, too.
13. I was in love with Justin since I was about 18 years old – from the first time I saw a picture of him or heard him on the radio. But actually, I was in love (i.e., in crush) before the world was created. It was a matter of finding magnificent perfection incarnate.
14. How does he know who’s asking the questions and that they think of the right thing to say the next day? Did the interrogator send a batch of afterthoughts?
18. I can relate. That sounds like something I’d say, though I am totally unfamiliar with the technology.
19. Who is the favourite person. “Oh, pick me, teacher, I’m ever so smart!” Please! Please! Please! At first, I couldn’t understand how a song could have legs, but then when Justin mentioned the favourite person, I realized he was the favourite person, and he has long legs, therefore, the question is not all that outrageous . . . I think.
25. Justin is obviously a good test-taker. Look at the way he answered all these questions. I wonder what kind of flak he might have given the examiner.
31. I want some Ha – and fast.
44. would be funny if it didn’t sound so angry.
47. Oh, no. You mean I must now dress tastefully for concerts?
48. Of course. I’m black and white and red all over.
Where’s #51? Hey, I’m 51. It’s code! A secret Justin code he won’t write in his songs! It’s all about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
52. Bla ha ha ha ha. Why, yes. Actually.
