I didn't realize Steve Perry ever had '80s hair. I like '80s hair. A few days ago, I saw a guy downtown with black, teased hair and makeup and Julie Ragins pants. He was skinny enough to be a rocker on coke, and he was really pulling off the part; but his partner, a home-girl wearing what looked like a gold nightgown, sort of made the whole thing look like a masquerade.
That is sad. You seem the type to read and obey all the small print only to get stuck with the bill from a change in policies, out of your control and retroactive, from a merger. A couple responsible people I know lost 1/3 of their life's savings that way. There are more stories.
My worst personal experience was maybe 20 years ago when the bank deposited my check in the wrong account. This was before online banking. I kept getting notices in the mail about $40 fees for bouncing checks. I figured I must have forgotten something and would pay the fees with a little extra to cover whatever I must have done. It continued for a couple months. Finally, the little voice inside my head told me to find and read a receipt in my purse, and there it was, the evidence the money went in the wrong account. That was after I got a good, loud scolding from a bank teller for "going to Kmart and using your ATM card like a credit card," something that could not be done, as it was only an ATM card. When the bank straightened things out, a supervisor peered over the shoulder of the person serving me. No offer was made to reimburse me the hundreds of dollars I spent on fees. I was just happy to have the bleeding staunched.
During the financial crisis, I was privileged to have an interview with the president and CEO of a large and wonderful bank that believed in service, honesty, and all that. The conversation, which went way over the scheduled time, was totally off-the-record, but most of what he said is part of the public record now, so I don't mind saying it. Among other things, he told me about getting a phone call from the regulators saying the rules were going to change and they didn't know how, but his bank was going to be penalized by them.
I am now two pages from finishing a book by Henry Ford. (I read it when I take the boss to doctor appointments.) People want to dismiss all he said because he made the mistake of falling for anti-Semite propaganda. It is a terrible stain on a remarkable life of insight and common sense. Anyway, he was no fan of money. He saw it as a tool. He saw business as service and believed it was wrong to chase money instead of the public good. He shared much more that is no part of the Keynesian economics and crony capitalism that pervade concepts of "good business" anymore.
If it's any consolation, I just spent over $100 getting my car jump-started today. It took three mechanics and two chargers. If the charge holds, it was worth it. They said the battery was good, but we're not sure how the battery lost its charge in 8 hours.
The dog sitter still gets my vote for unwanted expenses.
You and Henry are totally correct about money actually.
Maybe it was all the effect of the 13th yesterday..... I'm still going to shop around for a better rate of return on my savings. I do NOT like on line banking and was more or less forced into it. Long story like I say. I've been singing my Dad's f*** 'em all song today, that all good submariners know. They line the decks and sing it as they clear the breakwater.
I've recently started feeling very very overwhelmed. My memory definitely is not what it used to be, and that's annoying. I'm very glad summer is here. Hopefully it's just stress and a good rest will sharpen me up. Still much planning to do for the travel this summer.
Cruise accounting is down on paper and will be kept and referred to from here on out. I had it wrong.
That's my perception, but the peeps I know there say it's not that way anymore. It's turning into a tech town. However, while most Moodies fans, I presume, are into higher-end, designer instruments; one of the funnest places to be, in my limited estimation, is Guitar Center on a Friday night.
EDIT: I meant Guitar Center, Nashville.
Truly said. I is-pose I liked that store because it was chock-full of people who could talk down to me on my level and crack jokes I could understand.
Back on subject:
Justin sends a tweet out.
Leslee's happy again.
Unfortunately, before I find the send button, I am informed the boss wants me to plan to take him to his reunion. So, it could be the best of both worlds again: I buy tickets to support Justin, and don't show my ugly, obsessive face. >Sob!< And there I go being all passive-aggressive again.
On the bright side, I get to talk to the tax man tomorrow.
Start with the Great Gatsby. What the heck, New York is close enough to England.
If you've never read War of the Worlds, I recommend that.
Brave New World, Animal Farm. Jacques Futrelle. Google it for more.
I'm reading murder mysteries written in 21st century America that are set in the mid 18th century. I'm totally into 18th century right now with Ancestry and with my fiction. I learned long ago to read what I darn well please, not what others suggest or urge me to read....
Again it's a free country read what you will. The Oz books were written in the early 20th century too. PROGRESSIVES!!!!!
