How could anybody break down a relationship with Justin? I mean, if he were a friend, I'd move heaven and earth not to be a sickitating jerk. But since he's off limits, my toxicity persists. Am I confusing cause and effect, trying to slip off a self-dealing stunt, or am I hopelessly a mental, sickitating jerk demanding rescue from a rock star? The world may never know.

Drears.

This site is so lonely without luna. I wish I knew what I was saying to put so many people off. Maybe it's just a general creep factor. I'll try harder to clean up my act. Anyway, for those who don't go to the other sites, Justin has another interview here:

http://hippieradio945.podomati.....2_01-07_00

He says of "Watching and Waiting," if you haven't got it by then, you're in trouble. Well, I got something, but I've fallen so far, I don't know if it is the right it.

He just posted some generic, mild blogs out in his blog network that you don't believe in.

I'm too lazy to go get the links. Check his website?

Sorry been busy. This weekend I need to put the riding mower up on block and fix the fan belt (s) ........... either that or call someone to haul it off and start landscaping this yard, give up on mowing. I'm torn. Huge jar of WD-40 standing by..... then (dreamy tone) gonna buy me a mini chain saw with an extendable handle, and start REALLY trimming the jungle back around here.... I wish I had a goat, so it could eat all my yard trimmings.

You get to work, and I"ll sit here all exhausted for you.

I just gotta stay awake,
Gotta try to shake off,
this creepy malaise.

I think I missed the intersection of airfare and budget for Tel Aviv would have crossed while the Internet was gone. Rather than being gracious for the miracle that was Yoshi, I just got spolter and spolter.

Lame posts on FB and whatnot are fine. I understand it is difficult these days to get into a spiritual groove. Everything is about treading water here - not flooding, just middle class worries like paying bills and taxes.

My mind keeps straying to "I wonder how much the cruise would cost" and "how much would it cost to do Israel" and "I wonder when Spring break is so I can fly to St. Augustine".............. then I overcome the urge to slap myself senseless and get back to the task at hand.

Then yuku went down. I either over-pushed my data transfer for the day, or it's just plain legs up. I woke up this morning with a very painfully pulled shoulder (left) so I think I'm being punished for all the painfully truthful things I delight in posting publicly.... karma is after me.

It's TRYING to be a bad day, and I won't let it. The good news is, we seem to have the riding mower fixed (my son was gracious enough to come over and lend more a supportive hand..... I was planning to use his muscle and didn't need to). BUT the keys to the trailer are now missing, and the keys to the mower are inside the trailer and I KNOW I had the keys to the lock on the trailer in my hand, because that's how I do things. But where THOSE keys are is not obvious right now. I was a doof and didn't put them where they belonged!!!!

If I can just find the keys, and the mower is back in working order, all will be good and I saved about a $300 service bill.

Yes I checked the pockets of what I had on. They aren't there.

I happened to notice, there weren't a whole lot of interviews with Justin that surfaced as they went through the Midwest. I wonder what happened. He WAS being very gentle with his voice, I noticed. Photos look great (especially Solana Beach) but it's going to take time, and a healthy yuku to get them posted.

I know. I was hoping for a good word here or there, but I kept telling myself to be a low-maintenance fan. I've been too scattered to do this or that and actually had to break a couple work commitments because there isn't enough of me to go around. Maybe he's sleeping. Everybody was talking about his insomnia last tour. I thought of getting him a My Pillow - but I can't get my stuff together for even that.

Nice long good and recent, interview with Justin. Thank you to Jill and Taran. Sounds like a raw interview, usually they are cleaned up and edited a bit more. I'm still listening to it and taking notes.

I liked it. I confess, I was watching the clock because I couldn't work and listen at the same time. But then, toward the end, I was sad it was running out. I liked the music selections. They were older and flashed me back to the old days of vinyl. I don't believe I heard that version of "Forever Autumn" before. I wasn't paying much attention, then suddenly the keyboards sounded punched-in, then I noticed more vocal harmonies, slower drums, more isolated sounds on the vocals and guitar at the end.

I couldn't hear the popping on the vinyl, but I did hear somebody cough.

I liked the convo; they covered new ground for me. I don't want to analyze it because, "Whatever [Justin says] will be projected." Now, I feel like I have offended the Justin. He doesn't like rambling and obscure diatribes either. I'm stew.

But stuff I liked included memories of an era when DJ's had discretion, he didn't care about getting paid, they couldn't be bothered to go to Woodstock, and they could support an ideology as long as a dictator wasn't attached. The latter may be an absolutism, but I have to spend some time thinking about it.

It's awesome the Moodies were the turning point at the Isle of Wight. I wouldn't have been scared, but I'm surprised Justin was. At least I learned a new pickup line; viz., "Arrrr. Well, welcome to the astral plane, baby." I guess I'll be retiring the one I've been using for years. (As you will read in the comments, it's a Michigan thing.)

Ah, yes. My mind drifted to the time I first heard the Moodies. "The Voice" inspired me, as did a few other things at the time, and I didn't think much about it - except all those things combined inspired me to get my act together, which I did for a few years. Then, I heard "Blue World" on CKLW when it came out. It was "that sound"! I was curious to learn more about the people who were doing that.

I stumbled into the information slowly and unintentionally over the years, blah, blah, blah. It reminded me of Justin saying something to the effect he enjoyed music without having to learn about the artist. Well, obviously, so, since he's the best. Well, anyway, I was looking up a different type of meal for my boss. I spend too much time cooking, but he's on such restrictive diets. I wanted to see different products and their nutritional information. So, I went to the manufacturer's (?) web site and the company wanted to tell me all about this chef and that grower. "I don't want to ------!"

Back off-track, but like the refrain in Alice's Restaurant (I wanted to write Arlene's Kitchen.), that comes back around, one of my gigs is transitioning to more online content, and I was asking my editor if he trusted me to post without a referee. He then told me how he described my writing style as "sardonic cynicism"!

Whoa. That's three strikes against me. I guess that means I'm out, but I will leave on a hopeful note that Justin had to get out of there for another interview. Maybe it was a radio interview and not a job interview. I look forward to that, as I do the new, deep cuts added to the set list. I soitenly want to get to whatever concerts I can, though few they may be.

It WAS a pretty kicked back interview wasn't it? Jill in her commentary said it was chopped up all out of order.

HAHahaha that WAS a good commercial. How did you know I was thinking about Happy Jack and his submarine adventures today? "There's a submarine leaving Bombay today headed for far distant shores....." and you really don't want to know the rest of the lyrics.

Laugh

I did a huge reflection write up of the interview over on my blog, but don't want to bore... I'll post here if you want. Yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me....

Sure. Post it here. The downloads are faster.

Stuff was messed up, but the way the guy miscued stuff was cool. He would start songs I hadn't thought about in a long while. He couldn't have done better had all the "mistakes" been premeditated.

I never understood the lyrics from The Oo's "Happy Jack." The children sounded terribly cruel, but I liked Jack's inner peace.

LOL sorry, Happy Jack was my dad's nick name. I had no idea that my brother's friend (who hung the moniker on Dad) got it from a song, and Dad never heard the song either. We thought it was hilarious around the house because he liked to yell a lot. Pop was full of submarine stories.

I found the "mistakes" in the interview flavorful. The DJ had a nice voice I thought. OK will go find the blog. Remember if you find a mistake, I won't be able to go back and correct it, so it's set in stone now. Confused
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VERY good Justin interview with WMBA 98.1 Cambridge, MA. DJ bumbled a few times, but it was still enjoyable, sounds like he was working with bad equipment and sketchy staff. Lots of music in the hour and half, probably about 20 or 30 min of Justin interview by phone. Lots of good history questions and answers, Justin sounded very good, rested and happy.
Started with RRHOF thing, discussed that Mike and Justin were last to speak (Justin also reamed prior speakers with their rambling speeches full of minutia... and it was getting late), and the House cut the audio off before Mike could talk. That was rude. Justin claimed Mike had whispered to him "Should I say anything?" Justin had replied "If you want"......... so while yes I voted with vigor just like all Moody fans did, this is why I didn't give them money and beat myself up getting to the ceremony. Rude cr** like that happened, and the RRHOF scoops off the profit. [ed--F*** 'em in other words.]
Music selections in the whole show were excellent, unusual stuff like "You and Me" and "Lay it on Me" from Songwriter.
He mentioned Ray not having chording knowledge [odd, sometimes you can do harmony, but don't understand it's part of a chord and I think some people can't hear harmony??] And he talked about Gray being more lyric and beat driven, rather than melody. So as musicians, they all fit together nicely. Different skills. Mike and Justin were the ones laying out their chords and melodies with "rigid" structures (I think that was the word)
Justin really showed a lot of respect for Mike whenever he was mentioned, with reason, when you DO get what the Mellotron was about and the mechanics to the machine. Mike was a real master of the beast, indeed. [ed-- it was a major experiment in ergonomics] The Mellotron really WAS the key to their sound in the Core Seven, for sure.
He played "Watching and Waiting" about that point, and I took a break at "100" on the recording. (very emotional stuff, I honestly don't listen to much Moodies at home... it's too emotional, overwhelming now) Then they talked about Woodstock "why didn't you make it" Justin said (had to play it a few times) There was an element of "I just can't be bothered" and he mentioned they went instead to the French "socialist" [Communist] rally in Paris. [ed--- lots of things were going on, yes they were stoned a lot and lazy, but it also was expensive to go to America, the French gig was closer, they liked to chase French women, and they were mid-shift to "Threshold" as a company as well as in the process (legal) of shifting management. They had just fired their bossy manager from the Fall 1968 tour and did as they pleased!!! GOOD] Justin put a good positive spin on the era.
Isle of Wight 1969 was just a week or two after Woodstock and Justin said it was nice. IOW 1970 is the one we see on video. Justin said people on the hill were "getting the show for free" while others had paid a lot for their seats, so there was some bad attitude in the air. Then the wall came down. Justin said he was scared (he was also short on sleep, and you can yes tell that from the video, tho I've heard unkind fans say Justin was stoned... no he wasn't... he was exhausted) but yes in those days you had to be careful about what you drank because twits would tab (spike) you, put something in it. He mentioned Fruitcakes backstage saying "welcome to the astral plane".......... and Justin was just worried about doing a good gig. He also mentioned the "cheating" on the video footage, guitars changing in mid song because of the gaps, things were filled in. Justin and Alberto mixed the audio, they had only 4 usable tracks (other tracks were garbage) Justin said he was thankful it was a good "on" night for Graeme because drums can mess the tracks all up, and Gray was right on.
He did say that when they did "Question" which was at the top of the charts then, it was sunset and the crowd calmed down sorta and behaved themselves, it brought the energy into a good focus. (my paraphrase) The DJ mentioned that the whole show of Joni Mitchell was coming out soon (HURRAH!!!) and I have yet to get the Doors and Hendrix shows, but those are out there too. [ed- I loved what Joni said about plastic Indians, real Indians and wannabees... and how the audience was misbehaving... the nut who got on stage made me want to ralph he was so full of sh**]
Bumbling ensued, the DJ played FA out of order (went with a later portion of interview) then started "Lay it on Me" which I enjoyed, then he found "New Horizons"
Discussion of Blue Jays, Justin again said he started off in California with Mike after the band drifted apart, then others showed up, Things shifted, Mike couldn't deal with the overload so he bailed, and those there packed up and went to England to record BJs. Then he did Songwriter and "enjoyed being a pop star for the first time" He was asked his favorite solo album, talked about tVftH then Songwriter "had lots of support from other artists"........... now you have to do it on your own. A break came in here about "Lost Highway" with some slide guitar of "Next of kin to the restless wind" playing. That was interesting.
Justin talked about "the ghost that was me" it was like all the Moody history happened to another person. He can't remember stuff but he's seen the photos so he must have been there. They did a plug for OTB cruise, it's almost sold out (HURRAH!!) Steve Bishop mentioned, he did "On and On" which I always liked. Good I'll go see him! Then a plug for the second and third shows of his solo tour in America (Salisbury and the Narrows in Fall Rivah) Justin mentioned a quieter format, here here!!!
I HOPE SO MUCH HE LEAVES IN SOME OF THE UK SONGS.... Don't change it too much! Many of us haven't seen the Justin solo tour for a while, he just did the east coast, then I think back to back England tours... it's been a while since I saw the solo tour. For all inquiring minds, Justin was in England visiting with his sister, in the west London region.
super good interview, good stuff, Thank you to the DJ (didn't catch his name) Justin Jill and Taran for bringing it to the rest of us peasants. 😊
You reminded me about a bunch of stuff. I didn't know that about Ray and Graeme, either.
I find a lot of live videos have the stars switching clothes and guitars. It runs with the territory. Most YouTube videos don't synch the audio and video, which really annoys me. Remember my raves on another incarnation of this board for the German precision in paying attention to such things?
He's mentioned the ghost of himself before. I wouldn't know what that's like, as people don't know who I am now, let alone who I was before. If I'm in a position to defend myself, it's usually a strawman. OK. Justin carries around a ghost, I carry around a strawman, who do you want to carry around?
The part about his sister may explain why I had that strange craving to go wander around the streets of London. (I get a yearning to come 'round your sister's house ....) My ghost is stalking Justin when I don't even know where he is. Doctor!
I had another good day on piano. Whee. Maybe there's hope.
Might one of you-bots spread the word to Justin? His advice was very helpful, and I say thank you.
I certainly am a different person than I used to be. I used to be a bit spoiled and confused as to why no one liked that perky insulting brat I used to be. Yea an echo of me now.... kinda like your persona before you realized someone might use your posts from 20 years ago to blackmail you or get you fired. It happens.
Shrug. Kiss
There used to be this movie called The Gazebo, a murder comedy, black and white movie from the 50s. This guy is being blackmailed because his wife used to be a nude model or stripper, and someone got photos, was going to embarrass the wife. The husband after recovering from shock, tells the blackmailer he's going to pay the extortion fee, then works up the courage to shoot this guy. The creep shows up, the husband shoots (shaking wildly), the creep staggers and falls over.. dead. He gets buried under the gazebo that is getting put in, in the husband's back yard... he gets the photos, finally tells his wife (all except burying the body) She laughs hysterically and says SO WHAT that was so long ago, and a different person! I needed the money!!!!
I forget all the details now, but there is this comedic sequence of the body coming out of the ground under the badly poured concrete under the Gazebo, the body surfaces (one leg at a time in a rainstorm, very funny) the husband is shocked that he took it so seriously he murdered a guy... was ready to turn himself in, turns out the blackmailer had a heart attack and the gun had gone wild (they find the bullet in the gazebo of course)
The point being, often things in our past were yes untoward or rude or childish, but we have to forget that person "way back there" that ghost .......... sure we'd all do stuff different if we had the chance, but we don't have the chance. You can only embrace your past, or block it out. And maybe it wasn't all that bad after all, no need to over react in the present for "crimes" of the past!
Ooh. That was dark and murky.
In my case, I would love to be my younger self. I just keep sinking lower and lower in all respects, and just when I suppose I have reached rock bottom, a sinkhole opens.
Somewhere, there was a comment about not knowing exactly what cynicism was - or was it sardonicism? I don't want anything to do with sardonicism, but I can't deny I am cynical and wouldn't mind help extricating that feature from my personality. However, if the inquiry, which may have been edited since I can't find it, was about cynicism, I found this cool round-about definition:
"The exchange left me depressed. I have seen and heard it too many times over the last two years. 'It's all a game.' 'We don't believe any of this propaganda. Neither should you.' 'It's what we say and do to survive in this system.' They called it pragmatism - a mindset that allowed them to reconcile the deep contradictions in their lives. I called it cynicism. I understood it, but also felt fortunate not to have to grapple with these ethical dilemmas. By 2014, large segments of Russian elite society had become deeply cynical. No amount of understanding, no amount of appreciation of Russian culture and history, no amount of engagement was ever going to help me close my disagreement with these cynics...." - Mike McFaul, the better-not-be McFaul guy in the better-end-soon McFaulout.
If you want a good definition of sardonicism, don't. Run away instead. Head for a beautiful field of flowers singing beautiful music. A post on another thread recently took a cynical view on flower children. I choose to look to the happy side. And as I write this, a bunch of late-season fireflies have taken to dancing outside the window. I will impute happiness to their motives.
Sardonic--- grimly mocking or cynical (looked it up) to me "sardonic" is a crueler form of cynicism. Cynicism has an element of humor, sardonic-ism doesn't, it's devoid of kindness in any form. Cynicism can be instructive, in a kindly "poking" way... .Native Americans are pretty cynical often. It's part of the culture.
I come from a family of incredible cynics, so it's never been a problem for me to recognize. The word comes from "cynic" which in Greek is "dog"........... that is you snarl like a dog at things. Cynicus was a Greek philosopher who lived in barrel so he wouldn't have to bother with clothing. He offered free insults to anyone who bugged him. He turned up in Latin class, and I found him very delightful. Alexander the Great was alleged to have visited the old gent, and asked him if he could do anything for him (apparently struck by his poverty and sadness).... Cynicus replied to the great general "Don't stand in the sun" (the shadow was making him cold.)
Since we always had dogs around (big nasty ones) I was very proud to come from a family of cynics. We are all a snarly bunch. I've tried to alter my behavior when in public (since my outer form is female, I'm expected to "not be a bitch") but the cynical core personality is still there. Welcome to my world.
