I thought my soul was sold after I walked through a naked body scanner to see my big hero. I was wrong. I could only go to the AARP convention as a spy, tearing through the joint like a neutron, only to rescue Justin from the [political expletives deleted] and ride off into the sunset. That's so dirty. AARP must have convened a focus group to determine what kinds of music defectors like most. I don't quite understand how beautiful music is going to make America's unfunded liabilities more solvent.
I was thinking the same thing, Musher.
AARP is only in it for the money. I joined to get a cheaper dental plan, then bailed when my teeth turned out to be beyond fantastic and in no need of attention so long as I take good care of them (got lucky there..... alas I crapped out when it comes to genetics and Tri-glyceride levels. No more wine for me! Maybe if I eat their magazines they insist on sending me to clutter my mail box, it will clean out my arteries). AARP started out rather positive and conservative, my folks joined about 30 years ago and got a big kick out of calling themselves "Grey Panthers" You got me where they're all going with politics, Obamacare, etc etc.......... it's the land of Make Believe....... every man dog and cat for themselves at this point!
My soul is still intact.
When you come right down to it, "follow the money" and all else will make sense.
It's a gig. End of line.
AMAC is the way to go, Tom.
Hi Folks. No invisible ink involved. Actually I was going to mention that although Boston is within range (about 2 hours) I am planning to skip since there is a show (as yet not listed here) scheduled for CT (and only 4 miles from home) on March 14th. Have already ordered tickets. However I was uncertain it would be in good form to mention the show before it was posted on the website. I had post up briefly then thought better of it and edited it out. Apparently one can not delete a post on this new format. Cold weather is coming... my dogs are getting antsy. Time to break out the training gear and harnesses!
Ah, they have finally listed the Wallingford show so I guess it would be ok to mention it in detail. Venue is 4 miles from home! I ordered tix in September thru CT Public Broadcasting which is offering tix as a premium for donations. I suspect that, as in the past, CPTV has secured most if not all of the venue (capacity 5000) for this show. Top VIP offering is for a photo op with as yet un-named band member for $500 per seat. I selected two seats at a lower donation level (lower/mid orchestra) so the un-named band member will miss the opportunity to meet Mushertom!
no such thing as dorky comments.... all social interaction is good, therapeutic whatever...
No can't say I'd pay that much just to stand next to them and get photo taken. If I were bucks up and it was for a charity, maybe. I can just see them backstage, flipping coins to see who has to go out and play waxworks figure,,,,,
Really, Tom? Only one band member? Doesn't sound quite right. Generally during a "stand and shoot', Justin is on the left (as you face the wall), then Graeme, a space - for "you' - and then John. I guess, if one has never had a photo op, one wouldn't know about it - smiles, banter (though supposedly prohibited) and warmth. The only real 'no-no' is getting an autograph.

I like the part about facing the wall. I'd have to come up with something weirder, though - like passing out lit sparklers or magicians' flash right before the cameras go off. The Scoot and Shoots / Flash and Dashes I've attended allowed about three seconds before fans had to be out of the room for the next guy. We were expressly told there would be no interaction with band members. Like that was going to happen, though.
Well, that is the way it was described ("band member to be determined") on the TV promos. How it would actually go down I have no idea and, frankly, like most folks I have a lot better things to do with the additional $400 per seat it would cost. And what would be the value to me if I did such a thing??? Bragging rights on this forum??? Pic would likely end up in the junk drawer of my desk and I'd be wondering "What the heck did I do that for?" I'll be content to spend the evening with my lady friend seeing my all time favorite band. A few years ago I actually exchanged a couple emails with Roger McGuinn, but hey, that was free!
