I guess if someone feels good doing it, I would not knock it, their privilege to spend money how they wish. The extra $400 WOULD buy a very nice night on the town with one's choice of companions, however. Or make a significant down payment toward a nice back yard hot tub.

Always had plenty of warmth and banter just showing up at shows frankly.... Wink and sometimes with cheap tickets! Laugh

Yeah they'll probably all come out, but again, I think the message is "you get what you get"..... if someone has a cold, and can't make it out, they don't make it out. No whining if you don't get to stand next to your hero.... boy I bet some whimpering went up when poor Justin had to skip that one Storyteller... and I bet Gray and John were hilarious. Still haven't heard report back on that one.

You're right. I gather it is far worse on the receiving end, having to live one's life as a commodity. [Insert pages of disclaimers about how I don't believe Gepetto has magical powers and I never learned the art of humor.] My Christmas wish would be for Justin to be a real boy. But that would mean I would have to drop the fan mania, assuming truth to social psychological suppositions that persona arise to meet cultural demand. Don't you think we're all weird because the spontaneous celebrations at the rock concerts of the sixties and seventies forged unilateral emotional ties outside a natural social environment. We keep the good feelings alive by going through the motions and reliving the past, while the social scene has not evolved to the point where celebrities and fans may be integrated in a meaningful manner. What's it like to have a thousand stalkers who project a foreign personality onto you - and you don't know which ones are dangerous and which are safe and fun. Yes, three seconds of sunshine is more than I'd give my stalker. Yay for the band.

When all is said and done, I'd rather stand between Graeme and John than pay taxes on a Mini Cooper. If money were not scarce, I'd buy all of the above plus food for all the children in Africa.

Well said.

I was just thinking about Geppeto and gang the other day.... actually I was thinking about the Great Stromboli, the gypsy entrepreneur

*I've got no strings to hold me down, to make me fret or make me frown..... there are no strings on me*..... a goofy song in a puppet show.

That sounds like Aubrey Hepburn in that awful move about which a song was named. I despised the song because it bumped Justin's "The Way of the World" from the daily rotation at the local station. Yes, we had a good radio station. I remember one night a young guy was there, and his ears perked up when the DJ put TWotW on. He demanded to know who it was. "He's good!" he exclaimed at his behind-the-curve discovery.

Mixing and twisting threads again, I had the best dream last night. Justin was a real boy (grown up, though), and he was staying at my parents'. I was still a goof. He was going to go running, and he was trying to set things up on his GPS. I was too afraid to offer help lest I would over-groupie him. I also feared I would not be able to match his stamina and poop out, leaving him lost somewhere or spoiling his exercise. But it was sooooo good to see him. I remembered smiling, perhaps the first time I've ever done that in a dream, when I first saw him there.

Back to having strings on me, I shall try not to change the subject. Ya think? Back in the radio days, I moonlit as a security guard at a local mall. A couple local bands had been begging me to show up at the Freakers Ball, but I couldn't guarantee I'd get off on time. I finally told them I would go, but my uniform would be my outfit. "Nice costume!" one girl told me right off the bat. Then, a big can of Raid came, touched his head, and sprayed Silly String all over the "cop."

that sounds like a good party.... silly string can be fun! I understand they use it in war now to find booby traps. I haven't been to a costume ball for a long time.

My son really liked "Way of the World" as well..... I dragged him to one of the solo shows in the 90s. ALL of the songs are good, Justin puts a lot of detail and thought into them, that's for sure.

I do wish I could go to Boston and see the show, but not this time I don't think. I have too much to do here, and can't excuse myself running off to the east coast. It's a long way over there.

Once in a while, Justin unexpectedly pops into my dreams (the other band members do too) but he's always just a friend, or like one of my brothers.

Maybe you're thinking of that movie "Lilli" with Leslie Caron. Me mum dragged me to see that when I was young, and I suffered through the dorkiness. As an adult I appreciate it, I like everything Caron does... magnificent dancer too, she and Gene Kelly were a perfect match. Leslie Caron is really intelligent, I saw her interviewed on TLC once.

Soo... About the Boston show.
Has anyone been able to get seats within the first five rows? I have not had good luck with finding good seats, so far. I had gone through the rigamarole of registering for the AARP conference, which, at the time, dangled the promise of tickets for participants. I'll save you all the story... Anyone who has tried the same tact (and I know of a few) knows the story. MBT didn't offer great seats, either, for the merch package... The first few rows seem to have been reserved. I had hoped it was for registrants to the conference, at first, but have suspected that the tickets may be reserved for execs. I'm just looking for any information or reports about the status of these tickets, if anyone happens to be in the know.
Thank you!

I'd be hanging around the morgue. I still love *Crossing Jordan* ........... alas Boston will have to be another day for me. Glad I didn't get involved with that AARP thing. Might have known it would be a rip off. It will be quite a convention, I think Laura Bush will also be there speaking. No telling whom the seats are reserved for.

I want Glenn Beck to buy the Moodies out. They can play at a private party in Texas that day. I dread all these old fogies conflating good music and AARP or, worse, getting some kind of conditioned response to [politics deleted] when they hear Moodies.

AARP has about driven me nuts with their email spam. I joined to get cheaper dental, then didn't need the dental.......... long story but I'm stuck with them now. Cheap yes but they get it back in their ads and such.... :P not worth it. And yes I don't like their political guff, I'll make my own decisions, thank you.

My boss is a pack rat. In fact, I think the only things he ever lets me throw out are mailers from AARP, and I can't do that fast enough for him.

I only take two magazines (Discover and Zoonooz) but you can't believe the stuff that piles up here. I let it pile, then about once a month go through it and make a small stack of "to follow up or read" articles. I keep files.... miles and miles of them. Ongoing thinning reading consolidating burning. (for example I have lots on whales). Luckily I skim read very fast, and there's a considerable stack of newspapers in the recycle box. I'm still burning Dad's files. My brother whines when I hand him a box, but I can't do it all, and he IS the executor. He has GOT to take the bank statements and stock cr*p ..... what a whiner! (I have to smell that stinky old stuff all the way to Portland.......... wah wah) well what does he think I live with all the time??? He has this idea that when and if Dad passes (tough ol' guy he may outlive us both with our blood pressure problems) my brother thinks he can do all this in a day....... no way.

Many older people struggle with too many possessions. I'm trying to NOT fall into the trap. Now I have my stuff, Mom's and Dad's, and old dishes from all my maiden aunts. Four family Bibles. All my nieces have small children or aren't interested. I'm very nervous about what will happen to the family dishes if I get hit by a truck. Some came over from Germany on the boat!!! Through Ellis Island!

You'd croak if you saw this place. I've gone through a few drawers (more to do) and plan to paint when I can open the house up, but this summer will be dedicated to house purging. Many engineering books are going to my other brother in Arizona this May........... my true ulterior motive for the trip to Phoenix.

Ulterior trip taking. I'd otherwise be ashamed of myself blowing all those resources doing the AZ shows. I like AZ but it's going to be warming up..... ugh

I bought tickets but am considering not using them since the concert in Lancaster for me was terrible. I am Hard of Hearing and left during the second song. The music furnished by the Blues was so darn loud I could not hear the words (and I know them). Since the Blues handled the music the theater did not have an Assistive Listening Devices for HOH people. You will see me complain about this in other forums.

But I have looked at tripadvisor and will if I do go will stat at the $ 200 Holiday Inn Express at 69 Boston St since they have a shuttle to the Boston Convention Ctr and 24 hr shuttles two every hour and free breakfast and free parking (and a $ 5 shuttle to the airport).

Apparently it's a nick name for the band that nice people who are new to the community use. I had no trouble understanding it. In the aviation community, the "Blues" can mean only one thing, the Blue Angels.

It's all a matter of perspective.
