Now, if strep can break down the blood-brain barrier, is there a chance they could be useful in curing Parkinson's?

I'd have to look it up, but Parkinson's generally is a break down in neural pathways in the spinal column (which is an extension of the brain) it has more to do with a loss of lipids and such. Lipid barriers form the outer shell to neurons (the cells that make up neural pathways) and when those lipids are not there, the cell dies, thus break down in connection between brain and motor skills.

I don't think anyone can cure or avoid Parkinson's.... it can be caused by general abuse of your body in your youth for example. I don't know enough about Robin Williams' last few years (for example) I think he was in the beginning of Parkinson's, but he snorted an awful lot of coke in his younger years. Drink enough booze and that will burn out neural cells too. Sniffing weed killer, paint fumes and so forth. Does your brain and neural cells no good at all.

It's a disease of "cells dying off" and those cells aren't so hot at regeneration either.

Cancer is a disease that might be cured by "fixing" cells, rather like infections. Parkinson's isn't like that.
