I saw a rainbow on the way home today............ through my polarized glasses, the red on the second rainbow just rolled right off the purple of the first. But when I took off the glasses, I couldn't see the second rainbow. Pretty weird.... very lovely too. I love living on this street, daffodils all along the road, and that gorgeous rainbow over behind the Emerald City....
Per our previous discussion, that should mean you had two air masses of different-sized droplets. Off the top of my head, that makes sense, as the Polaroid should eliminate glare (i.e., reflected light bouncing off the suspended droplets between you and the rainbow, creating an effectual screen). Hooray for you. Rainbows are good.
Oh, you are so good with plants. Such was never my talent. I once wanted to grow impatiens. At the end of the season, my only success was one flower about 1/4" square. It was hilarious.
More tragically, I love palm trees, and so my sister used to get me a tiny, eight-inchish one for my birthday and one for Christmas. They were among the most beloved presents I ever received - the most beloved being those Moody Blues/Justin solo albums my brother would get me. Anyway, I just kept killing them, necessitating the "try agains" I kept getting. Finally, I told my mother I was not going to kill another palm tree, and I regifted the tree to her. It grew until it reached the ceiling years later, and my father decided he had to get rid of it. Ah, such a beautiful tree.
A concert in St. Augustine recently had me walking down memory lane to that year when St. Augustine froze. I walked around on Anastasia Island, and noted how some palm trees sprung branches from a point. Others, sprumg them from a line. The fronds themselves, then leaves, needles, or whatever from a point or from a line. I just thought I'd share that.
Palm trees ARE strange. I know when Mom was so sick, like about a month before she passed, it was Palm Sunday and I was thinking a lot of religious thoughts.... normally I don't go near church during Holy Week as it's so crowded. Anyway I was in the hardware store and saw these very cute little palms, so I weakened and bought one. It's small but has a very thick ball like center to it. Three years later I still have it... water it irregularly and it seems ok here. (They don't take much water, I suspect you're over watering them). Anyway it's giving off a new leaf from the center... for a while I thought it was a bloom. Had it three years now.
I don't know much about palms, other than they are a very primitive genus of plant. I should read up on them. On the "to do" list.
Poinsettias are likewise plants who don't do well at all with too much water. They did great outside when we lived in SoCal, I love them still. I have two now, one from Christmas before last. Might repot and put in the same planter. They REALLY dig the heater in the house. Conversely the maidenhair fern really got angry with me and died way way back, so I shoved it out into the cold on the back porch, and it's coming to life, little sprouts. Very picky darn plant. REALLY doesn't like heaters.
I just don't know about that orchid. My brother dragged it in here when Mom was sick, and it was in a really bad planter with no drainage, so i repotted it .......... TWICE and it's still poorly. I have much to learn with orchids.
Back on Anastasia a few years back on that same walk, I chanced into the nursery. My eyes feasted on the beauty of the tropical plants. Then, in the back, I saw all these palm trees cast off and lying in the trash pile. Eek! Had I owned a truck and a high ceiling, they would have come back with me. Palms are to trees what butterflies are to insects. BTW, I caught a beautiful monarch on my windshield wiper coming back from the last show. Tragic.
I am generally not a fan of red, but I could stare at poinsettia red all day.
I don't know much about orchids. Jim Angleton was into breeding them, supposedly. A friend of mine took me to an orchid show at the local arboretum. She asked me which was my favorite. I hadn't been judging them. I replied, "I don't like the plaid ones," as there were a few varieties that looked plaid to me. As we left, a man was walking behind us with a potted plant he had purchased. She whispered to me, "Don't look now, but there's a man behind us carrying a flower. I think he wants to give it to you."
How's that for meandering?
Incredibly weird. If you were seeing plaids in the orchids, I suspect you were seeing into the UV range. Are you part bumblebee?
BTW I've been noticing little blue cars following me around. I meant to mention this sooner, but forgot (it's been busy here, we had a pie fight today) As well I've seen little girls wearing a lot of blue shoes. Fred Meyer near my home has a large section of Skipper Blue shoes and handbags. Is it a recent fashion trend or something?
Does it have something to do with everyone wandering around singing "Let it Go" from *Frozen* which I have not seen yet? Actually if one more little tyke sings "Let it Go" in their small squeaky voice I might barf. I love children, but this is too much.... not even a very imaginative chord sequence. Must be quite spectacular in the movie.
I rescued a very lovely pine from the Wolf Haven on the trash heap, the wolfies had tee tee'd on it and it was dying. It's out in my front right now, growing into a lovely big tree. I've pulled several nice plants out of dumpsters and such. When it comes time to landscape this place, I plan to raid the nearby forests for ferns. I'm all about economy plants.
I can top that. Sunday I saw a moth. It had a white fuzzy head with silver antennae and orange and black striped feet. Its wings were white with a design that looked like the outlines of a tributary system. "Oh, no," thought I. "Now, I'm seeing plaid moths."
I looked, but I only saw one pair of blue shoes. I did hear that song, and I flipped off it. It sounded like one of those pretentious compositions, like "This Is the Moment" (Did I say that?) or "The Greatest Love of All." Ce n'est pas mon genre.
Are you sure we shouldn't go back to talking about seismic doomsday and conspiracy theories???

I was in a very weird mood tonight anyway and put on Olliver's Stones version of *The doors*............ my head has gone elsewhere for a while. Back soon.
"Where's your will to be weird?" --Jim Morrison
Back in the land of reality sorta................... that movie is quite an experience, can only take it once a year if that. Whew. It did make me long a bit for Los Angeles. One of the scenes toward the end has "Jim Morrison" (Val Kilmer) walking down a street in Los Angeles at daybreak. I've seen that scene. It IS a forlorn place very very early in the morning...
Are you a lucky little lady in the city of light?
Or just another lost angel, city of night....
I think I need some sleep, I've taken on TWO huge complex projects and I bet I make no headway on either tomorrow and I'm short on sleep I think... that would explain the reason the stars and aircraft seemed so wobbly tonight. Lovely weather tho. Hope it holds. Fired up the barbeque pit.
One of my favorite songs. LA Woman......
So, off line, you'd better get your plans going, straight, clear, clean..................... I'm simultaneously trying to do certification renewal, job applications on line (HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE) and then iron out the wrinkles in my own travel plans, which go WAY beyond Justin shows. Alas Lost Angels and Fire Bird do NOT have rapid transit. San Francisco does. Folks going into Los Angeles, remember there is Orange County airport as well, and it's a bit closer to the Coach House.
I don't know what everyone sees in the Coach House personally. I'm going, but I thought the food was terrible. And you have to cram in and fight to get good seats. Everyone waited forever in these long long lines. We were there once when the air con gave out, and some poor devil with a really bad act (and voice) was on in front of Justin. It got ugly.
Can't wait to see the Troubadour!!!! Don't care WHERE I stand!!! I was too young to participate in the hippiness back then.
Anyway there's probably something cosmic about all that stuff being done at once, and how it will finally all come together, maybe.
eh...... you haven't seen the REAL California, nor the loveliest of the missions. SJC gets a lot of press because that's where everyone went in the 60s for field trips. They've restored almost all the missions now, and they are really something... ALL of them. going to catch a couple more on this trip.
SJC had turned into a traffic nightmare last I was there......... used to be a super sleepy little town long long ago. And alas the white doves were all gone. The swallows all went south to build nests at Miramar too.... had many a bird poop on our planes.... they were sorta pests. I love swallows, but boy they're messy!!!!
(Sigh) ok whatever works out............
