Is anyone else fighting off the cold and flu bugs like I am???? This makes the second time I've run fevers this year. YUCK.................. the weather is finally clearing up tho.

I'm gonna go in and take a whole bunch of pills (I supplement) and put some split pea soup on to cook. I have to be on the 12:20 ferry to Seattle, dressed in something suitable for a memorial service. Which means I need to track down my black dress and a blazer that will go with it. and do all those things you need to do for grooming........... maybe I can pull out of it in 3 hours... might get lucky.

All I want to do is sit around in my housecoat and SNEEZE.

I gotta go. I'm representing my family. Sometimes I think we're an offshoot of the Godfather I swear.

Would that be your Titanic dress?

No. I don't get sick. I think I'm too sick to interest bacteria. I've heard the Rolling Stones are like that.

Not to insinuate that you two are sharing germs or anything, but I think Justin is sick. He was sniffly, and he used a handkerchief a few times. Then, his voice broke a few times after "Nights." I guess that's what you call giving 100%. He's so good to work so hard for his fans. I hope and pray he finds a way to continue to sing so masterfully without getting laryngitis.

"Any bug that bites me dies a horrible death"-- Lazarus Long

I'm really susceptible to head colds, might be allergies. My brother too... he's built a lot like Justin. We probably share some ancestral Welsh gene somewhere. Hey Justin, related to the Jones or Hawkins families?

So you've seen a show already??? Well, give, how's it going???

Indeed I hope and pray he hangs in there with the voice, sure sounded good on a couple of videos already. Hopefully he'll clear up when he hits Texas and the southwest. The Northeast is full of pollinating pine trees probably.

for those treehugging green earth people that don't really do anything but talk about it, here is an idea that REALLY should go viral....then the earth CAN be green and GOOD everywhere for all...

Hey sphinx.................. it 'tis a good program. Some decade back, I went on a tour of the Tacoma gardens.... a nice Deadhead gal had taken on this task in conjunction with the Catholic ministries of Tacoma, to raise more food in urban gardens. Basically if it was a vacant lot, they took it on and cultivated it. People bought into the coop and turned up to help weed and harvest their share. Win-win for all.

Having said that, I DO garden, as much as I find time for. Often it is not cost efficient; I only go out there when I'm very frustrated and need to dig in the ground a little. Right now I have planted and growing, onions, hops, strawberries, potatoes and a grapevine. Didn't mention the plum tree and two cherry trees, and two apple trees. I maintain a herb garden in the front too.......... most times, the bees get more benefit from it than I do, but they are welcome to it. I do turn out a very flavorful chicken soup with my own seasonings.

All this takes maintenance. I despise weeding and for the few pitiful onions I get, I have to put in a lot of time hoeing. I DO enjoy home grown tomatoes, and have three plants ready to go in the ground soon. I also drool for sugar snap peas and hopefully will find time soon to get a pea patch going. Those at least can grow up above the weeds.

The fruit trees are monsters, and I've been trimming them back hoping to improve things. To really have good apples, you have to spray, we are infested with all sorts of things here. Like, I find vampire bite marks on otherwise perfectly good apples hanging high in the trees. We have fruit bats!!!! The plums are a LOT of work to harvest, and I plan to turn the whole furshlugginer harvest this year over to my Ex husband.......... he makes marvelous wine with it.

I think I got gipped on the hops, no buds alas, they must be male plants. Wink Grape is also slow growing, cold and not enough sun here. One day maybe I'll have lovely producing arbors to show for my effort. In the meantime, just about the only real effective foodstuff I grow around here is my chives, which go great on top of potatoes and I can't eat those anymore.

Most of those tree huggers would run screaming from a good compost pile... they want it all sanitized for them. Yeah right. Wink

Being merry tonight with some good hootch and a nice meal.

The fridge at work stopped working, so Nancy cooked the Mediterranean shrimp. It turned into a soggy mess, so the boss said add some rice. After an hour of trying to get the rice to work, the meal was served, and the boss called it Shrimp Expletive Deleted. For the next meal, I tried making Shrimp Expletive Deleted Croquettes, but they exploded in the microwave. For lunch today, we are serving Shrimp Expletive Deleted Primavera. The dog really liked it.

There IS such a thing as getting sick on too much shrimp. I did once, and now I approach it with more caution. I'm sorry I wasn't there to handle the rice, I'm very good with it.

I have sworn off seafood for the next year, until I'm sure the radioactive plume from Japan isn't part of the food chain. Salmon go WAY out into the north Pacific currents.... and they are top predators. Likewise the shrimp from the Pacific. No thank you! I just read another article today that says the shells of certain mollusks are showing wear from "acid" oceans, excess CO2 absorption, from Monterey (CA) north to the Outer shores (Canada). Naturally it was used to lambast cars and pollution... and there is worth to it. At the same time, I wonder about other factors........... like volcanic action off shore........... black smokers......... or the Navy (or Chinese freighters shipping in cheap computers and cell phones) dumping fuel in the water etc etc ........

I'll just swear off sea food for a while.

You should only cook the shrimp until it just turns red. It might get rubbery otherwise. Also make sure it's de-veined, those make you REALLY sick. I learned all about de-veining when I was a critter.......... I got the duty when Dad dragged in fresh catch off the Terminal in San Pedro. Shell 'em and whip that nasty little vein out....

I have a spare refer I'd give you for free, but it's sorta a long way off alas.

Dreamy tone............ I wish Justin would talk more about his cooking habits. I so enjoy a man who really enjoys cooking. My Ex was a good cook, but he wasn't reliable. Only cooked when he felt like it, like some artist, lalalala. Me, I want a hot meal on the table in the evenings! So now I just do it myself........ Actually I have a funny story there, about 10 years ago I was dating a guy in SoCal, and went into the kitchen to whip up dinner. He got really quiet and there I was merrily babbling away to myself. So I asked him what was wrong. He said he didn't want to p*ss me off!!! Poor guy, I guess his wife used to scream if he talked to her whilst cooking. He WAS trained well enough to stay out of my way (thank goodness!!! My Ex used to come BUG me in the kitchen, walked up behind me, and I move fast. We had a few near misses with fork stabbings).

So we had this long civilized conversation, about how I enjoyed talk and all, but if he would just stay out of the kitchen while I was in there, all was well.... "When I hide in the bathroom, now THAT's different.... I might bite!!!" heheeh. My Ex got so annoying that I finally got out of the kitchen and told him to enjoy himself. Then he wanted to go BUY dinner, and we were on a budget! Sigh. My Ex just enjoyed conflict I think. We just couldn't communicate. It happens.

I do enjoy cooking, but I'm afraid I don't play well with others in the kitchen anymore. Maybe there's a soul mate out there somewhere who can get along with me in the kitchen. Someone who actually helps with the dishes, too.

AH you found my commercial! Now you KNOW.... they are VERY fun and just right for certain moments. Sitting in Yoshi's was one of them!

OK to the holiday! I hope all Americans are gainfully employed planning some celebration with friends and family! My parents used to do a really drunken bash on the 4th and we have the film evidence to prove it. Lots of corn on the cob. I've been cutting up chicken myself, and mixing barbeque sauce.... my son is having folks over today, but my Ex might be there too, so I promised to skedaddle for everyone's comfort. Besides. I want to come to MY house and see the fireworks HERE. My neighbors are all nuts, and we have like a block party with everyone firing off massive skyrockets and stuff. AND we can see across the Sound from here, and see all the nuts out there with THEIR parties and skyrockets. It's a blast!

But I'm getting the lawn chairs out, and gonna take over half a watermelon for everyone. It's a nice melon too, had a great thump to it.

Check these out! It's enough to make one go off one's diet!!! Red white and blue jigglers!

We had a local chocolatier who made red, white, and blue pop rocks with I think it was cayenne, but it may have been habanero peppers. They were shaped like rockets; i.e., cones on a stick. I never tried them.

I'll celebrate by lighting a metaphorical firecracker under the seat of any politician who does not uphold his oath of office. How patriotic. I absolutely love what the Moodies are doing. Imagine! A Brit band coming to America and saying, "Yo, you yankee doodle noodles. Quit waiting for government to solve all your problems." Me very happy inside. Brilliant!

You must help.

Because it doesn't go with cheese. I'm typing with one hand, as Evo is on my lap and behaving quite well, considering the artillery out there.

Yeah Micco is clutching the floor himself. He's super tolerant of loud bangs (he's bred to be a war dog or police dog), but it even gets to HIM after a while. I fed him chicken and everything and he's still not happy.

Huck Finn had it right......... set off firecrackers right under them in the middle of a speech! AND thank you great suggestion.... my new Irish cheddar goes super good with fruits, should be excellent with watermelon.

I knew a couple that trained police dogs. That was scary to see something so alive be so programmable. I think they were Belgian Malinois.

Some Shepherds have that bred into them... Micco is one, fantastic he never gets upset over thunder for example. We've had shepherds who crawl the walls at loud noises. He was overwhelmed last night. Just hunkered down.

Even "better" my son's neighbors house burned down last night!!!!!! YIKE............ it's totally engulfed! I guess the owners ran over and rang their doorbell ........... I've got to go see what's up this morning. How scary!!!! All those pyros laugh and are drunk and everything, then at some point it catches up with you! Sheesh!!! They spent a lot of time and money landscaping that house too, what a shame! I always climb up on the roof and have to clean a bunch of spent bottle rockets out of the drain pipes.

Have they stopped bombing? Or do you have a guy like on Gilligan's Island who does not know the war is over?

Back on subject, I had chocolate-covered Pringles once. Pringles are "Ew!" but the chocolate was Belgian. The Pringles merely slowed my rate of consumption of the good stuff.

urgh.... makes me think of Ralph in the loo............. urp. Buicks too.

Uhm........... something nice and normal, like chicken tacos. That was a very good lunch. On my diet too.

The rocket's red glare finally stopped.... the burning house near my son's turned out to be some torched junipers, thankfully. The garage next to it got a little singed. They got lucky. A stray firework obviously lodged under the bushes.... drunks aren't real cautious about where their stuff shoots, sadly. Happens every year. Firemen really did a good job there. My son still had a fire extinguisher sitting out front hen I drove by. Shudder

Ralph in the loo reminds me of a guy I knew named Ralph who kept a Super Soaker in his company bathroom.
