I think our weather is headed your way.
I'm reading this book series based on "the Outlander" and right now they are in western Virginian/NC area, it's fascinating the wilds they are talking about. Uplands. Ever hear of a place called Cross creek? If Justin tours back there in that area, I may have to come and drive through it.
The jet stream isn't calling for it. Then again, I was one of about two doofuses saying no way Hurricane Irma(?) was going to make a right-angle turn to visit Florida. I was wrong.
I already threw out my winter boots. Did I mention that? I learned the meaning of rockport - all those cities are named Rockport. A rockport is where the tread of the sole of the boot is torn and opens to scoop up pebbles with every step. "Enough of that," I said. They were very warm boots, though.
The natural beauty and biodiversity, as well as the relatively warm weather, indeed play heavily in my decisions to come and stay here. Spring is gorgeous, a world of pastels and tiny farm animals. Summer is probably like the Garden of Eden. Even rainy days are lush and beautiful, as the sky remains textured instead of homogeneous. High summer is my favorite with 80oF weather and steamy evenings. Then, a cool breeze will come along and the leaves start looking insect-eaten and yellowish. The weather holds until mid-October. Then, all the leaves are rust-colored until they blow off. I hunker down for two months and wish them over, and then it all starts again. I think I would have a panic attack if I had to live in the cornfields of Iowa. I like to visit NYC, but I wouldn't want to stay. There's a bit of Antaeus in me.
A lot of places are named Cross Creek, but none are standing out in my mind with any significance. Maybe the Uplands are the Highlands. I don't know. There are a few rock festivals and performing arts centers up in that area. They even hold Scottish Games every year, wearing kilts, throwing telephone poles, and all.
When I started the series (Outlander), I had no idea so many Scots HAD landed in the Carolinas, and of course in Georgia (where some of my family hails from) A friend of mine in Virginia is a Wallace, and he's really into the Scottish games stuff... always has up photos on my FB wearing a kilt. Nice guy about my age. I almost dated him but no sparks alas.
Found an interesting bit of cardinal (bird) info, check the link. Be not afeared of the pop ups, Pee Wee Herman is a good guy IMHO.

After a useless day of nothing working, I am delighted to say two programs I use routinely have made updates that are actually more convenient for me than the former versions. I can't recall the last time this happened. Then, that boss I referred to in another thread sent me a check. Life is good.
Also, it is cold here but nothing like the cold in states north of here. I'm thinking of the street people I saw up there and wondering how their lives can be anything but miserable.
Good heavens!!! Don't you hate that when people you've trusted in your home or place of employment, have been lazy, disrespectful, piggy.... it happened with me too when I was taking care of Dad. Long story, but my brother who picked up the slack for a day or two as well, was a much cleaner person and he's anything but poor. He works his butt off... and is worth more than I ever will be.
I hope you have a very good washing machine there... I found that was essential to the job description.
Street people tend to migrate on our coast... the folks who live in my town only show up in the spring. They are scarce in the winter. When it drops below freezing here, they do open our "Pavilion" for any stray Homeless, which is a space where they have county fairs and stuff. The homeless here are actually a migratory population, in the winter they go south to Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara. Those two cities have a spotty history setting boundaries with the homeless.... once I visited Santa Barbara, on main street you couldn't walk down the street without stepping over them. One street over, not a homeless person to be seen, so they were relying on the guilt of wealthy people and tourists. It's an exercise in guilt. I'm not a person who is vulnerable to unreasoned guilt.
This song just came on the telly for a Disneyland commercial (oh how I would love to go and take some time off and blow money) but it's one of my favorites. Hopefully *Toy Story* is one you've seen, but most of us had favorite toys when we were kids. I still have mine. Sometimes I even still hug him, and he's still a good friend. Great song indeed.
It's all so water under the bridge, I had to scroll up to see whereof we were speaking.
I only saw pieces of Toy Story. I was at a friend's house and kept walking past the TV. I was mesmerized by the characters' hair. My friend was a physicist, so she was able to fill me in on how the imagineers fixed the hair, not that I remember any of it. She was surprised I hadn't heard of 'Toy Story,' either.
I'm guilted. I may have mentioned here, went to church in Mesquite, TX; we had a great Sunday School lesson. Our teacher, among many other things, said he'd been to (I can't remember how many, but he said he had just counted.) countries. All were beautiful, but some were mismanaged. I tend to agree that poverty is the result of social irresponsibility. My response is to run away, and I know that's wrong.
[The EVO! just came over and kissed my toe!]
On topic, I smelled glorious peat moss and fresh-cut grass. There is a lot of floral ground cover: phlox, violets and white violets, supersized forget-me-knots, a five-petaled pink something or other, hyacinths, magnolias, and many, many blossoms including pear and weeping cherry. Most spectacularly were violet-purple azaleas, rather early.
