They outdid themselves on the spiders too. LOTR wasn't that bad, I usually don't mind spiders, but they took it a few notches beyond in this movie.... ICK.
I think my brother said the spiders were in the book but as you said, they really "kicked it up" in the movie...of course, Hobbit fans know how to "kick it up" too when it comes to Peter Jackson's kicked up scenarios...

Sorry I just couldn't resist that....Boy I really need to get back into Moody Mode

These LOTR fans are so lucky now. I would have done a lot for some of the wonderful art they have now, for the taking, on line. We used to struggle to find hobbit posters, if we could afford them! I still collect LOTR posters. I should do a whole room in them.
They are very fortunate--anything can be had nowadays...
Yes you should plaster the wall over while the getting is still good...
I bought my first one (shown below) actually a couple months ago and put it up on my work area wall as a little work place humour: On the bottom of it, I placed a powerpoint creation I fashioned with an Elvish Tenguar Script translation caption of my own taste--so instead of it reading: "The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug" it reads: "Desk Guards - Workplace Security"...
I'm kinda allowing myself to have a little fun right now - which I seemed to have forgotten there for a good while (it's about time too!) I LOVE the colors in this one...granted I don't really like the girl being in it since she definitely is not in the story--but hey, it's masterful anyway and my co-workers get a kick out of it!
Oh all the elves are Beautiful People! Not that I'd put them on my wall!!! I'm more a costume person. Thank you on the poster.... agreed about the added subplots, I bet ol' JRR is seething in the Hereafter, but the design work was top notch. Orlando Bloom seems a very nice intelligent young man, but not my cup of tea. Viggo has some potential, but he lives in Argentina.
Always allow yourself a little fun. Life can be darn short. I found that out shortly after a close encounter with the aft nozzle of an F4 Phantom. Cherish life.
Ignore the ratings. It's too much work to track such things.

Was going to recommend *Saving Mr. Banks*......... a couple of themes being bounced around in our conversations lately, are in the movie. Like, there's a "real world" beyond this Reality... the more important world. PL Travers' father was a guy who crawled into a bottle because he couldn't deal with the realities and responsibilities of corporations and banking. He was looking for that "other world" Poor guy, seriously... so what IS more important, our fantasy worlds, or Reality? Our principles? Or saving yourself from financial ruin?
Walt Disney did a lot of "Inner Child" work as his life's mission, thank goodness.... someone has to do it. Super good movie if you haven't seen it. I learned a few things.

PL Travers was awful snooty IMHO. Like JK Rowling, she got a lot of her ideas from other authors. The flying umbrella comes from L. Frank Baum (*Sky Island*).
AND Colin Farrell did such a nice job in the movie, I didn't even realize it was him at first!!!
The movie also made me think about other books I enjoy, Percy Jackson and Harry Potter. In the Percy Jackson case, the author Rick Riordan, is a VERY practical dude, and happily sold out to Disney.......... the movies have a few nice spots, but the plots of the books are totally mangled. No one cares, and I'm really happy for Riordan and his success. While in the case of Harry Potter, obviously JK Rowling, backed up by a lot of fanatical Harry Potter fans world wide, wielded considerable clout to keep things more or less like the book (thank goodness!!!) It's interesting to watch how books morph when they get to the screen. Same with LOTR and Narnia.... the Narnia movies are right on with the books. CS Lewis is *sacred* LOTR, wild variations in plot. Not sure which is best.
Renewing the thread. Rick Riordan, since this was last posted, has openly criticized the producers of his Percy Jackson series, and has apparently blocked more movies being made. But, he can't gain control of the characters, so no more movies will be made. Pity, they are very enjoyable books.
Just picked up the 9th "Harry Potter" movie today and have to watch yet.... I just haven't seen it at all. Saw Dr. Strange and Moana recently and they too were very good.
Do you like cartoons? Especially Japanese animation. Try visiting KissAnime, the leading anime site now. I like shoujo, what about you?
