We had a thunderstorm last night! The wind blew so hard the rain BIG drops, came under my eaves and hit my window, waking me up! Very exciting at 1 am. I've been running a fever so I got up and wandered around some in the dark and enjoyed the light show.

I had a palmetto outside my motel room in Texas. It was very windy, and the rustling of the fronds was soothing. I awoke from the night in the comfy cotton bed with the biggest coulda-shoulda and then went about the day bawling as previously discussed.

I love thunderstorms, too.

Sounds like you did ok in Texas. I like the state, and OK too, had it been another time of year I would have toured through there with you. I like those prairies when the wind blows.

If I'd driven down there, I would have jinxed it and we would have been up to our cheeks in snow.

Something good about winter: It is over 1/3 over. The days are longer than they were over a month ago, and we have passed January 21, considered by some to, statistically, be the coldest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

But are the nights longer than moonshine? I recall hearing this song once when I was yearning to go to California (You can guess what-for.) and struggling with paying for it and getting time off. When I heard, "You're gonna go," I knew things were going to come together.

I like the Ventura area. Always sing that song when driving 101 along there. Seems I'm always there when it's raining too.

I've long wanted to drive the PCH from start to finish. You know I love the LA freeway after dark, though I wish I could have been driving under better circumstances.

I've done PCH mostly, but in sections and over my entire life, not at once. Some sections of it are very scary, like south of Crescent City... the road is collapsing. PCH in the LA area isn't all that bad, it's the I5 corridor that is murder. 'course I know a few back roads too. In fact I was born not far from PCH, now that I think about it.

It really IS lovely tho. One of the reasons I do follow the Moodies when they tour the west is that I love the drive so much, it's always lovely and entertaining. I hope someone makes it out here this year, John, Justin, the whole band I'm not fussy.

Ventura Highway veers off from Hwy 1 in spots, splits into 101, I'd have to get a map to be certain, but there is a huge peninsula "Lompoc" that juts out there. The train goes down through there, but not the road.

Indeed, indeed about the American West. I took one of those online quizzes, and it said I needed to live in Iowa. IOWA?! Corn on corn on corn on corn. Corn on corn on corn ......

Say something good about winter: Those who can organize their lives to follow Justin around the countryside are not in windy 20oF weather this morning.

It's February already, so we should start seeing flowers in a few weeks. We always have flowers, but they're sparse, random, scruffy blooms in hot spots.

Wherever did January go?

A long long time ago I can still remember how the music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had a chance that I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
Every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried when I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

I could ask how music dies, but then I'd be suckered into the game of deciphering the lyrics of that song.

Something good about winter: I wonder how many lives polar fleece has saved.

Something else good about winter: April is almost upon us.

I'm inside, and I will remain so if the stock market doesn't crash to where we're all homeless.

I love my polar fleece. My cats and I curl up inside it at night during the winter.

No, no. Say something nice about winter, like it was in the 40s this morning and it didn't hurt to go outside and it didn't feel like my face was going to freeze. Soon there will be summer fields to run and waves to ride. This is such a beautiful and glorious song.
