I'm hearing Lesley Gore singing "California Nights" in my mind. I wonder why. You're having a lovely time, I wish I were there.

What I would really like to hear is that twelve-part harmony monks choir singing Mozart's "Requiem." It used to be available from Harmonia Mundi. I have searched for it for about twenty years. It was too good to dissolve into ashes. Clues?

I heard downtown train in my brain earlier today so ya'll get to hear it-virtually (probably one of the very best songs Sexy Rod ever did--but that position, too, might be of my mind Wink)

I'm overdue in completing a task of cataloguing mother's 78 shellac (145 classical music sets) record collection that she took extra special care of to guard against scratches and breaks and fingerprints--maybe I will discover it somewhere in there for you....? Lord knows until we find out, eh?

maybe in about a couple weeks...or so...? Wink

I heard "White Lightning" by Def Leppard on Dee Snyder's House of Hair last night. The harmonies were very nice.

Sphinkc I too have a collection of 78s, mostly in pretty good shape. I also have an old 78 turntable... alas I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get that up and running. Mom had a lot of Caruso on those I think.... we had children's albums. And there were some lectures too... like Prokofiov maybe.... wow that stirred a few brain cells. I too have to get those re-recorded.

I'd love to know what you find...

leslee that's a whole era I'm very foggy on... I was too busy working when they were popular...

again off to work... work is good! Cash flow is good!!! you will be absorbed into the Body... Kiss

I keep hearing the sound of the concert in my head... 2 weeks later. Flashbacks blblblblbl maybe I'm possessed...... hey Ghostie any thoughts?

Justin sometimes puts rather annoying "voices" in the background... I know the guy likes children (I like children, many of us do), but it wasn't my cup of tea..... I don't like his squeaky female voices in the mix either.... "Bless the Wings" has them... one song on SotWS does too, forgotten which.

*Haunted by your love*.............. ConfusedConfused

don't you win if you get 21??
~~~~~~~~~~~
Sphinx thank you for the Rod Stewart piece... I don't find him any more or less sexy than other men, but I do like his style. You should have seen me and leslee hopping off and on BART in the Bay Area,,,, lots of lost wanderers....
One time when I was logged in, I got a knobby for HTML codes. This is not that time.
On the subject of voices, I normally think the children thing is dumb - like Obama and Hitler surrounding themselves with children for momentous signings. I didn't like it in "Raised on Love," because one was singing out of tune. I didn't like in any other tunes; e.g., Ray Stevens' "Everybody's Beautiful," either. When The View from the Hill came along, I liked what sounded like African children in the background. I can't hear that song without it evoking memories of a nice dream I once had. The latest voices are so quiet as to only tease the mind.
As for the women, Julie does a nice job of complementing Justin's voice. So does the lady on SotWS, except she is over-modulated at times. There are ladies' voices all over the album, but in "Capturevated by You," the girl does a great job until she gets too loud. It's the guy in the booth's fault. Don't most big recording artists use some kind of spin on their voice, whether it is another person, double-tracking, or a chorus button? (OK, Cher sounds like she sings through a flanger.) Although I prefer analog to digital because it is more of an art, I get jealous of any chick that has anything to do with Justin, so maybe he should use a re-bot next time.
Just kidding.
I'm awash in a sea of acoustic alchemy, and I thank the artists. I interrupted SotWS to listen to Sur la Mer. I was inspired by that thread where people talk about Justin writing to them. The first Moodies song I heard was "The Voice," and that had all the message I needed to tide me over for years. Then, Sur la Mer was very biographical for one summer in my life. But Justin and I had never met - at least not in the material plane of this life. Excuse me. There's somewhere I need to be. Wink
I think Justin genuinely likes kids..... he's the artist, I'm just making a passing comment. he can do what he wants on his recordings. Yep, the "kid" factor has been around a looong time with politicians (both fair and foul). I think Teddy Roosevelt was the first to exploit his children in the media .... the reporters loved telling stories about the kiddies taking ponies into the White House and such. Saddam Hussein did it too. Hanging was too good for THAT creep.
I was trying to think of a musical piece with children in it that I really liked, and all I can think of is that song in Dr. Doolittle, all those darling little kids on SpiderMonkey Island (best part of an otherwise shaky movie, besides Justin sitting in the courtroom). The Shirley Temple movies were also really good, she was a cute kid. Often it's gratuitous, and the children come over like little whiny brats.
I love a good alto woman's voice, love Cher, and I liked Tracy's too. I hardly ever hear Julie, she blends so well. (she seems a nice gal). Gosh I like so many male singers I am hard pressed to think of a good female singer.... Billie Holiday! Olivia Newton John.
I know what you mean by the last message. Yes it's a powerful effect. Scary almost.
I was in the kitchen, and some electron Penfield-Wilderly tripped off "Blue Spanish Eyes." You see, I'm really stretching to believe Justin is writing to me. What was that drug I needed mj?
I really love the rhythm and cadence of several songs on SotWS - the fast rhymes. It's cool.
Now, you read my mind, luna - or you are merely channeling a message from Justin (dated 11-12). Thanks, though. Now, I don't have to exert myself to type "You Tube" and "Everly Brothers." Wait.
I heard the Everly Brothers over at Dad's facility as I was going out the door.... it was pretty. The rain has really been coming down here, may have to grow gills and swim upstream with the rest of the salmon out in the street..... yeah Justin mentions the Everlys all the time. Their photo was hanging there at the San Jose Civic, I dashed past it a couple of times.... that was a vintage theatre!!!
Here's another one that just popped into my head.... that's what I get for dreaming about my old pal Uncle Pervy....
I'm listening to SotWS. It was sitting in the computer's cup holder, and it just decided to play itself. I'm not complaining.
I used to like Joe Satriani - I didn't REALLY like him, but I convinced myself I did because I thought that would make me part of the cool Atlanta scene. That was when "The Crush of Love" actually got airtime. Come to think of it, I liked that song because it played as bumper music on some bootlegged Moody Blues video or something like that. It's just a vague memory. We're peeling the Jungian onion and coming full circle. Consider that topology, how 'bouts.
I think Daddy Jung was tone deaf. Don't quote me on that. 50% of the human race IS tone deaf, you know. I think it was John Lennon with the glass onions and such.... Jung just sat around and smiled, talked about I Ching and astrology, he was quite handsome even as an old guy.
