You weren't arrogant, merely casting pearls before swine. I can't hold a candle to your prowess. Maybe you and my sister could get together and pull off some virtuosity like those 2 Cello dudes. I only deteriorate with the years - on all counts. The folks at church had me playing just one finger a few weeks ago because I was reeking so awfully. But please don't dumb down on my account. I'm sure lots of those 4-9 guests who are always online when I'm here are virtuosos who can keep up with your shop talk.

Right now I'm hearing a bunch of people doing politics. I'm laughing over Donald Trump chickening out on the last debate, with Megan Kelly. I'm a HUGE fan of Kelly's, watched her for years, she is one of the smartest, most fair, female newspeople on the air right now.... and gorgeous on top of that. Yet still a lady. She nailed a loud mouth IMHO.

Talk about not being worthy!!!!

Fox News is blaring on the TV and I wish it would go away so I could listen better to those chord sequences you provided.

I can't stand politics. All I know is these people a gazillion times more intelligent than I are trying to get me wound up to do their bidding. There is no telling the number of levels of deceit for which a dweeb like me shall fall.

I live by myself for a reason.... ditto. Lately the politics has been pretty boring, but I very much enjoyed things tonight. Something is in the stars. There's a group of twits trying to stir up range wars out here, a family named Bundy, who have more ammo than brains. Normally I'm all about free rights, speech and such. These people are running cattle on Federal lands, and it's a wildlife preserve... cows stepping on tortoise nests, endangered species wiped out by future steaks. Then like the blithering fools they are, the sons came up to Oregon where they think they can get away with it, occupy a remote preserve facility, some of their number start ripping off (apparently) Native American artifacts, and the tribe called in the Feds to investigate. FBI shoot out, one dead (thankfully not the FBI, they are often very nice people, who apparently can shoot straighter than these hooligans) I'll side with the Indians and FBI any day over people with skewed notions of what "freedom" means.

So this all came down today, and I've been riveted to the telly. Elsewhere, Megan Kelly nailed Trump (five months ago) over calling women some pretty ugly names (Carly Fiorina nailed him too, already in one debate) and it blew the Donald's mind. He doesn't have his priorities right and chickened out on the next debate with Kelly as a moderator. (And she's GOOD too, a former lawyer) Fox news isn't backing down on it, essentially telling Trump they will appoint whom they wish to the debate, and they welcome him back. If he can stand the heat.

Most gratifying. Cool So sorry..... it was an exciting news day for a change. Normally it's just background noise. Fodder for social psychologists sometimes.

The four front runners (both parties combined) are pretty scary IMHO.

My attitude is, if you don't keep up with the research, you get the government you deserve. Having said that, can I ship you some earplugs? They do help. I understand about the loud TV been there done that with the elderly.

I sometimes get spun up, but often judge political candidates by things like their tone of voice, their body language, and their spouse. I generally ignore what they have to say. Except in the case of Trump, it's sorta hard to miss his yakking. Talking heads, I tune out.

OK sorry back on topic. I heard this today coming home.... I think I like Rossini very very much. Sigh, I must get myself together to go see Mike Dawes and his guitar group this weekend. I'll report back.

I have a stash of earplugs, but one must balance being able to serve a boss with a tiny voice with the other distractions. The Evo went on a barking rage and cracked my windshield this morning. I was in the post office picking up hospital bills. The day started with a $4 hot chocolate that was tepid and sour. At least we ironed out that my time in the bathroom is from 6am to 7am. Which works just perfect when I rented the place thinking it was my private bath, and I can only be home between 1:15 and 7:15 a.m. Yeah, all you Moodies fans, like Justin are insomniac, but I get really stupid if I can't average around 6 hours of sleep a night.

But, I'm happy because the sun is out and my aches and pains are going away, and eventually I will have a grip on how much I owe Obamacare and how much I owe in taxes.

I like candidates who put themselves on the map for principled stances before they bid for higher office - not by crusading, but by defending the Constitution they swear to uphold. I want a candidate who will tell Fox News, "Small people talk about people, Average people talk about events. And great people talk about ideas. If we are to be a nation governed by the people and for the people, we need to treat the people like they are too big to be entertained by cheap shots and ridicule."

I'm really mad at the way Fox shapes things, though I suspect it is all carefully-calculated strategery to keep Mrs. C off-balance. I prefer direct communication. I hate hearing the talking heads tell me how great a non-answer is. Then, the last time I came out - I'm serving detention in the office with the Evo - Dr. Oz was on there talking about an app that read candidate body language and whatnot to show what the candidates were really about. In other words, don't trust your ears and eyes, trust me, for I shall tell you right from wrong. It's the same line the stalker uses. I also don't like the way Fox demonized flip-flopping more than being firmly-rooted in the wrong side of issues.

I watched it too, and I'm tired of hearing about immigration. I lived in California MANY years, and further I'm constantly bumping into people from Guatemala here in Washington State. To the person, those illegals are always nice people, just trying to live. A wall makes no difference, ask Hadrian and the folks who built the Mageneau Line. Good luck putting a wall through some of the mountains on the border in Chihuahua.

Otherwise it sounded the same as it always does last night (I've watched all the GOP debates) but it did seem a lot more civil with Mr. Toupee not on stage. I like people with a good senses of humor (a sign of great intelligence), that would be Rubio, Dr. Carson, and that guy who stole my name.

Fox is just being Fox. I was actually putting my own spin on it, sorry. Too many years in the Navy.... and we will all prosper once we quit allowing the media to push the agenda. "The 4th branch of government"..........

Alas it's wall to wall talking heads on Fox right now, and I would really love to learn more about their UFO story on their website....

Fox blares in the other room. The Evo barks.

The piano at church today had been tuned. It sounded great. We had too many people singing bass in the chapel. Walking the Evo this afternoon, I took a few minutes to just lie down in the woods and listen to the wind and the birds. I told myself this was the Sabbath, and I shouldn't feel guilty about taking a fifteen minute break - without the TV! It was nice, but I think it scared the Evo.

Soon, I'll be writing the events for a certain publication. That is fun because I get to YouTube the performing artists and then I write about the ones I like. Well, last time there was one who was really bad, but he is a real big name locally. I felt so sorry him because he's such an old stoner, so I put him in. But normally, I use the briefs as an opportunity to try to make the world a better place.

WAIT! Justin's coming to Cherokee in March. Boy is this brief gonna be good! Must get the thinking cap.

They wouldn't want me for a reviewer. I would put unthinkable things, like "my eardrums were sore for hours afterward"

BTW I saw Mike Dawes and the International Guitar Night thing last night. Four very top notch guitarists.... and no banging eardrums. Just very delicate sounds out of their guitars....

I'm hearing the TV and radio, both at about 120dB - and trying to figure out how the county changed $21,906 to $1.2 million or some other number I can't hold in my brain with all this commotion. At least the doggie is out.

I love how people just toss money figures around, especially with elected officials. There is no accountability. They used to throw embezzlers in jail.

What I'm hearing right now is the echoes of the International Guitar Night last night. Very very good stuff. Go see it if it comes near you.

And here's Titanium

On the way to work this morning, I got lost.... listening to the classical station, I started going to the wrong district, turned around then found a road block, turned out some poor guy my age, possibly a homeless dude out walking around before dawn... was crossing the street at McDonald's and got nailed by a commuter in about the same shape I was, semi still asleep on the way to work, cuppa in hand. Detour (thankfully I knew the roads) and woke up enough to get to work on time just barely.

Anyway before this, I had the most delightful giggle.... turned on the station and "gee that sounds like familiar classical music, like ballet" a glance at my magic dashboard, and indeed it was Orpheus, which is a ballet by Offenbach, about 100 years ago, possibly part of the Bauhaus movement, certainly part of the Bohemian art revolution. We have the original vinyl release of it around here somewhere, my dad's collection. Anyway I was humming along and enjoying myself, when suddenly the Can Can broke out. Yes. .......... whaaattt???? Looking down, it still says "Orpheus in the Underworld"..................

I had NO idea.......... our classical Can Can music, made famous in movies like the Moulin Rouge, is also known as "the Infernal Gallop"......... I laughed so hard!!!!!!!!!!! Le Moulin Rouge an extension of Hades. Indeed..............

Without further adieu, here it is. You are welcome to imagine your own wicked flashing skirts and pantaloons...........

Later edit:: After posting that, I took an old vinyl to bed and read it............... Orpheus has TWO classical versions out there, one composed by Offenbach, the other composed by Stravinsky (who also did the Firebird and Rites of Spring, both of which were presented by the Ballet Russe in Europe (France) not long after the Russian Revolution) *I* have the Stravinsky version and must get my turntable up and listen to this.

Offenbach did the Can Can music in his Orpheus set. For those who don't know the story, Orpheus was the ancient Greek version of a rock star, a very recognizable metaphor. Orpheus was known far and wide throughout the land, but tragedy struck when his wife, the love of his life, was bitten by a snake and died. Orpheus moped about playing his lyre, until Thanatos (?) who was a fan, helped him out and told him a secret passage to the Underworld (Hades) so he could be reunited with his lost love. He had many adventures, and generally gets out of it all by playing his wonderful music.... the dead spirits cried out for more and more music until Hades himself (god of the Underworld) decided to let Orpheus have his wife back.... but he couldn't look at her until they were back in the real world.

You can guess the results. For some reason (the story sometimes blames the woman by making her a whiner who begs her husband to look at her) he looks back too soon, and she is lost to him forever. He wanders the world forever after, sad and distraught. Finally the Maenads (followers of Dionysus, and yes classical groupies) catch up with him, and in a drunken frenzy tear him to pieces .... and eat him. Let that be a warning to all rock stars who would be glittering and gold.

Offenbach's version of the story sounds a lot more fun than Stravinsky's so I must look it up! Offenbach is probably an opera, while Stravinsky is a ballet (a bit different!)

As a child, I liked Offenbach for the Tales of Hoffman. I also thought he had a very cool name. I don't get so nearly as deep in music as you do. International Guitar Night would have been spectacular to see, methinks. I love watching virtuosos in any format.

I love just about all "romantic era" classical music, it tells a story. Ballet roots here. But Offenbach more and more sounds like he was a real party hound and composed the loveliest, most jolly sorts of things. He really dives into the question of good and evil.... an eternal central theme to the stories of the period.

I had a lovely day today, nice class, good kids. We were doing a writing project on "my hero" (2nd grade) and I had them doing portraits, figures of their hero. Young lady at the "Group W" bench (nice kids but you had to stay on them to get their work done) took to this project, and a lovely little gal in dreadlocks did an excellent cartoon of Bruno Mars. I first saw this artist some years ago at a Grammy award show, thought his performance and production was top notch and enjoyable, a very talented man. Anyway a little keyboard action for leslee

Then on the way home, I finally got out of the Mozart pocket, heard this. Long ago I was involved with a stage production of Our Town, which (looking back on it) was pretty mediocre for a college production. A lot could be done with the play. Our Town is often done at the High School level because it's appropriate and most people can relate to it. The last act is sad, someone dies young and the ghosts are part of the dialog, it takes place in a graveyard. My point being, I didn't know there was music written for it. Copland wrote a lot of 20th century ballet pieces, which I'd have to look up to talk about.... here you go. It's really quite lovely, not heard a lot anymore. I'm sorry to say this version of it isn't as nice and professional as the recording I heard today on the radio, but you take what you can get for free on youtube.

Finally one of our Moody friends posted this on my feed, and I REALLY enjoyed it. You'll have to click to get the link. I knew guitars had been around for a few centuries, wasn't too sure how long. Interesting history notes.

I'll watch the stuff when I have some free time. I still haven't figured out my guitar chord puzzles yet - or gotten the candidates on the phone, or completed the database, or caught up on the logs . . .

As for Bruno, he was big when the Moodies toured this region the last time. I kept hearing him on the way home and thought, in light of the Post-Moody Blues, how apt was the lyric, "If you ever leave me baby, leave some morphine at my door," and thinking how apt that was for my p

I don't listen closely to words often..... yeah some of the Blues these days are pretty edgy, heroin and so forth.... but that's the Blues. In a down spot, doing bad things, then coming out the other side to redemption and feeling much better.

I am so tired of talking heads on Fox. I actually turned it on the other day saw earthquake damage in Taiwan from a mere 6.4 quake (I've been through three in the range of 7.0) how shocking! Watched the RNC debate last night, they all looked really really tired. All of them were fumbling.

That's the point. How on earth does anybody solve the world's greatest problems in a sound bite? "Ted, how are you going to use the presidency to end all the drug abuse in the world, when you couldn't even reach your sister? Time's up."

But seriously, do you know anybody who craves the sound bites, oversimplifications, and outright lies that are thrown at us? Do you know anybody who wants to vote for a tricky debater over somebody who will defend the country within his enumerated and separated powers? And don't get me started about having to vote for a woman because all those intellectually-superior talking heads say women have to vote for women - because they don't have brains like men.

P.S. Fox says 3=1.

P.P.S. Fox is on in the other room, and I am wearing earplugs.

I think it's sad that the American people are stupid enough to let a talking head convince them how to vote... for any candidate. I think some candidates are sincere, in both parties. Once you establish their relative honesty, you decide if their plans seem sound. Then you check their spouse and family. Simple.

You just missed Stossel (he's quite amusing) and Ollie North's War Stories were all a bunch of ol' dogfighters (Chuck Yeager among them.....) and right now I have on BBC America with Star Trek. The Superbowl was marvelous and I also enjoyed several of the commercials. I had a wrestling match with new telly tonight. Try switching the boss to the weather channel or History maybe?

Hearing right now.... Star Trek NG. I'm very fond of the Star Trek Universe, and I feel the need to swish a little orange soda through my teeth as it were.... clean the slime off. Anyway the opening theme songs are rather enjoyable to a nerd like me.... the last two (you have to wait for it) theme songs are very very lovely.

PS I'm carefully avoiding political debate, because I like you and want to always stay friends..... I'm personally very fond of Rubio and Carson, and yes Fiorina.... but I think several of the candidates would make good Presidents. Might want to shake one of them down for silverware however, when they leave the White House at the end of their term.

Seriously, the pace was really slow last night..... Trump and Carson looked a bit befuddled, Cruz looked even more haggard than normal .... and may have led to Rubio and his alleged "canned speech"......... when you're stoned on cold tablets, it gets a little weird. Cruz and Rubio both have little kids breathing on them at home.... walking germ factories, kids are.

Avast, ye white whale............. Ahab

WOW. I'm blown away..... what am I hearing right now? Whale song..... there really IS a white whale out there.
