Now, I"m listening to SotWS with earbuds. I see what luna meant about "Lazy Afternoon." It's a pleasant mix. The bass line is really nice. As for the words, I have no clue what he's saying at one point, "We were mortal you and I, we were [something in that beautiful British accent]." I just don't know on which thread she posted it. Even the bluegrass sounds nice. The chica does sound a lot louder now, though.

luna said, " I am hard pressed to think of a good female singer…. Billie Holiday! Olivia Newton John."

Didn't you like my singing? You were there when the guy complimented my rendition of "The Magic Flute," when I had the guitar pick on my nose. That really wasn't fair. I was able to sing coloratura after blood-curdling my voice to the point of almost passing out - and Justin got laryngitis.

My ears are being blown out... no I'm sorry I missed your singing Cry All the women in Mom's branch of the family had lovely voices. I'm very spoiled about female voices, picky.

I'm not going to share the lyrics to "Lazy Afternoon". I figured them out. Listen under the earphones. That's not it. Makes me smile a LOT, very sweet.

I too VERY much like some of the bass on ALL the songs on SotWS. Justin is a very able composer, pays attention to it all.

All I can hear right now is the low hum of my space heater. Man it's been cold here, bone chilling. I should bring my Christmas cactus in off of the porch I guess.

I don't mind listening 'til I"m blue in the face, but the resolution of the available technology combined with the perspicuity of my old and abused senses leave it in a haze. Maybe it is only for the initiated. Here we go again. I'm gonna need a graphic equalizer or other filter to figure this one out.

Ooh. I missed the math question. Here we try again.

I'm hearing a few seconds and rewinding to 1:12 and repeating. "We would oughta?" "We were Dordogne?" The Swiss, evidently, are as bent out of shape over this 1:12 thing as I am.

At 100% volume and a 2-second loop, I concluded it is, "We were going down." That's what was posted on TER, but it sounded so much like a "d" instead of a "g" until I pounded it into my brain. What's smily about being mortal and going down? If those are the words, the "but" seems non-sequitur; i.e., others cry over unfilled dreams, but we died. Huh?

OK. Enough turning Justin's pretty music to Waffle House hash browns for the night. "I've moved on to, "I want you. Still want you," to which I add my chorus:

Ngh! Ngh! Ngh! Ngh!

Ngh! Ngh! Ngh! Ngh!

Ngh! Ngh! Ngh! Ngh!

I'm blowing my mind out this morning (on deadline) rocking and belting it out with "Questions 67 and 68." Let everybody else think what they may. Please YouTube it, as the iframe I tried to paste here was disallowed.

The Chicago bash continues. It's been great. I'm now listening to a really pretty song I never heard before, and I just had to share it.

Feldercarb. The videos aren't embedding, but it's called, "Never Been in Love Before."

Hey. I can work and rock at the same time. I just wrote down the boss' birthdate as 2013. Now, I must unplug to locate the White Out. Oh, I do hope somebody walks in and hears my most splended Peter Cetera impersonations.

Ooh. I Googled the lyrics, and they're making me cry:

I played for mom some of her favorite old music artists the other day--namely Tennessee Ernie Ford hymns-she opened her eyes and looked directly at me (something she had not done for some weeks now--and took my hand in a grip that wouldn't let go--she was telling me thank you I believe Smile) so I looked for "His Eye Is On The Sparrow (one of my favorites of Ernie's) didn't find it-but here's another one I really love to hear him sing:

One for Luna...enjoy a new discovery for me today--I didn't know all that about Mr Ford--(Mom did tell me that he was opera trained to be a singer) --- what you can learn on youtube these days Wink

Uploaded on Nov 22, 2010

Ford's experiences as a navigator and bombardier in World War II led to his involvement with the Confederate Air Force (now the Commemorative Air Force), a war plane preservation group in Texas. He was a featured announcer and celebrity guest at the annual CAF Airshow in Harlingen, Texas, from 1976 to 1988. He donated a once-top-secret Norden Bombsight to the CAF's B-29 bomber restoration project. In the late 1970s, as a CAF colonel, Ford recorded the organization's theme song "Ballad of the Ghost Squadron."

Lyrics

There's a ghostly squadron standing down beside the Rio Grande.
A mythical Commander beckons with a ghostly hand.
Like the old and fabled Phoenix, they'll rise to fly again,
to perpetuate the spirit of the peace they helped to win.

Ghost Squadron.
Ghost Squadron.
Gallant planes and valiant men,
Gallant planes and valiant men.

Some rose to fight at Schweinfurt, Pearl Harbor, and Cologne.
They filled the skies of Britain, Ploesti and Bastogne.
They bore intrepid airmen
Across embattled skies.
The legend of their conquest
Enshrined in history lies.

Ghost Squadron,
Ghost Squadron,
Gallant planes and valiant men,
Gallant planes and valiant men.

WOW thanks for that moment with the old War Birds! TE Ford has a little too deep a voice for my liking, I prefer a tenor, but he's on key at least, can't complain. Sadly, a large percentage of pilots DO die in crashes, both civilian and military. And even sadder, the Japanese and German pilots thought they were fighting for their country too. One day maybe we won't need war birds and can all just fly them around and enjoy ourselves.... yes I've heard of the Confederate air force.... kinda cool stuff.

leslee I have to go back and listen to your selections... sorry those planes got my attention.

I too am dealing with the elderly today.... long story.... but I'm really tired of hearing about other people's schedules.... I have my own, and it's continually screwed up by other people's schedules and crises .... why ME? Surprised

Glad you mum liked it, Blue. I'm not sure my Dad knows what planet he's on.... they play music for them in the common room, but he doesn't seem interested.... good music too.
~~~~~~~~~~~
That IS good, leslee, mellow and nice unusual harmonies. Alas I must go, lunch is over (burp), and I have many things to do today..... none of which I get paid for :( but I'm building up treasures of the spirit I suppose....
Anyone else like sock monkeys? Gonna make one for my grand son for Christmas.... maybe put Spock ears on it... Laugh that's all I really want to do anymore, be a granny, and sit around knitting and sewing...
Thanks for enjoying it, luna. After my last post, the day turned into a mad flurry of errands. Thanks for posting the embedded video. I love that song.
We called them Neenee monkeys, and I finally found some without the monkey business to keep my feet warm in this ridiculous weather.
Time to fire up the Chicago again. I think it will go well with back taxes, don't you?
nothing goes well with back taxes, except that stuff that is high in triglycerides, which you aren't supposed to drink unless you put "Jack" in front of your faith....
which sounds really odd doesn't it? You should see my sister in law swill the margaritas and flop....
Sitting here looking at the slideshow of some of my photos from Vina Robles.... Justin has dropped about 7 pounds. Good. Man it's hard to keep the weight off when we get old... all of us...
This week seems to be full of errands, with Thanksgiving coming up, the whole world will stop over the weekend.... no not planning on Black Friday, think I'll stay home and whimper. Make a sock monkey doll. Either that or drive out to eastern Washington and see if I can see the comet.
I found Justin's pounds if he wants them back. I was wondering whence they came.
Not to dis the TEF stuff, he's not my genre. I do, however, have friends who were both outstanding musicians. They named their son Tennessee and moved to Nashville. That's as close as I get.
I'll try to embed the third Chicago video, because of the quote misattributed to Einstein. (Maybe if I keep misattributing it to Einstein, . . . ) Anyway, is it just my imagination, or is Peter Cetera masterfully managing the bad echo? Every time the reverb starts to set up, he sings off it gracefully. Wow! What talent.
Otay. I can't upload it, but you can Google this blurb to find it:
Uploaded on Jul 9, 2007 Video from the concert at Essen, Germany (1977). "Call On Me" can be found on "Chicago VII" album.
And another thing . . .
I am not deaf to the similarities between "Never Been in Love Before" and "Songwriter Part II."
And I'm not blind to how Peter Cetera fixed his hair like Justin. Is that why I like Chicago?
Hair is about the last thing one should consider in men. I rather like dudes with thinning hair myself....
Time stands still as we race through the Universe, on our way to the sun........... alas we believe Comet ISON was absorbed into the Body.....
Mixing threads, those lyrics are astronomical. The verse addresses a question I often pondered in the past. Sometimes things are so good you wish they could last forever, but they can't because to be frozen in time is to eliminate all vibration, which means there would be neither sound nor color and possibly no feelings as well. So, even though as a youth I wanted to keep the great feeling of a Moody Blues concert forever and never go home, the wish was folly.
Now, time has no spatial existence. It is only measured in terms of relationships between physical objects. The notion of something with no material racing or standing still makes no sense. Velocity is displacement divided by time, and displacement is a measure of relative positions of matter. The plot thickens as we race through the universe as time stands still. The proof is left to the reader. [Hint: Your denominator is zero.]
The most important thing is going to the sun. For me personally, that is an image of a meaningful dream. I don't care about Icarus or solar probes. All I remember is the horror I felt in the dream and the assurance when "The View from the Hill" came out and put the fears at rest. Such is the lyrical genius, and the genuinely good heart, of our beloved hero, even though we aren't supposed to have heroes. "Strange Times" revisited the scene, much to my emotional comfort.
Returning to that Waffle House thread where we scatter, smother, cover, chunk, scatter, and dice lyrics, I would remind you that Justin is just a singer in a rock and roll band, but he is also just a songwriter. He is one without the other, and the other without the one. I leave it as another exercise for the reader to don the guru hat and string a lot of prepositions together as if explaining the mystery; viz., He is by and through and because, and that is why he is in and for all things.
I'm still on a Chicago binge, enjoying happy music, reliving groovy times - Detroit in the 1970s, when afros, number shirts, and striped sweat socks were the rage.
