OOOOhhh that was too sad! Had to stop it. I know Graeme was reading one of my favorite poems, "Oh I have slipped the surly bonds of earth" and so forth, it's the aviator's prayer poem. Really beautiful, we used to post it around the hangars when I was in the Navy. Anyway I burst into tears... very embarrassing. Military life is not easy to begin with, then they shoot at you. Sigh...
A bit of a sister act. Enough of all that sweat and testosterone. What's a little hysteria after all?

Bette Midler I like--she was genuinely funny alongside Shelly Long in Outrageous Fortune{don't care for that other gal for a whole scad of reasons }
They used to air "High Flight" poem and video every night before the TV station went off the air here many years ago...I loved it--
I must correct myself about the big bird sightings around here--we actually DO have some...I'm talking Thunderbirds š after all, this IS the home of Army Aviation (Ft Rucker)....a big part of me really misses participation in the military...(oh, sorry--after this no more sweat and testosterone for a while LOL)
But I wanted to add that although ACDC for the most part was never on my favorites list-now and then those genre bands will come out with something I really can latch onto--interestingly enough, most of those guys background musical technique training involves a lot of classical stuff and I really favor that kind of joyful noise integrated into the modern sound...I can easily imagine David Lee Roth singing this preferably instead of the lead singer performing it (talking about changing out vocalists again)--
Anyway--a hearty salute to the Big Birds flying over my community here (and the Harrier Jet at the end-which has always been my favorite fixed wing š ) ...I'm enjoying this mind-blowing recording through my new bose headphones I got last week-wow š

How I learned to stop worrying and----
Agreed... it takes a LOT to get 'em off the ground and flying straight. One of the most gratifying feelings was to go out at sunset, and see a plane that you KNEW only a week prior had been "broken down to parade rest" as we used to call it, I mean parts scattered all over the hanger. Then a week later we have it put together, and off it goes to do that Top Gun stuff. Yea it takes quite a bit of blood sweat and tears. I've christened a few planes with my blood, literally. We all have. Love=hate relationship.
I first put music and aviation together when we were passing around some pirated Top Gun footage in Diego Garcia and had nothing better to do with ourselves... it was easy back then to run a stereo feed into a VCR with film footage on the other feed... really did a nice video once with "Wildest Dreams" Mixed in some of our own video... cameras were just getting to be usable for dumb sailors staggering around or riding in the back of a jet.
Anyway the best video I ever saw was "Bad Company" the song laid over some personal Top Gun footage, I happened to be sitting in on some training somewhere. Really wonderful song to lay over jets. "I was born, a six gun in my hand".... and this A4 comes up behind the tail of the plane the cameraman is in. Guns up. We Americans have this heritage of bad ass cowboys and such, and putting up with no nonsense. Cowboy diplomacy is not dead. Yee Haw
You'll have to picture this over Top Gun footage
And here's one of my favorites too š Let's do it right if we're going to do it at all! LOL Can't lose with Darth Vader in shotgun position. I don't know how other nationalities feel about this scene, but I absolutely HOWL with laughter over it, never fails every time I watch. I remember seeing it at the drive-in when it first came out I was pretty young. The car was rocking my whole family (kids and grown ups) laughed so hard.

That WAS pretty good, LOL
Yeah I recall the knucklebusting torque taskers...though we were pretty careful about beating ourselves up due to safety regs and all that. I think the closest I ever came to hurting myself was absent-mindely strolled right through the wideband field (not sure why I did that)--I was really NOT awake so early in that morning and one of the female officers came running up behind me before I got midway out and showed me the way back--they had the radars operational and I just walked right into it. To my knowledge I don't to this day believe I was affected in any way but it can't hurt to be "in the moment" while one is moving about in this 4th dimension...but I do recall standing one day in the avionics shop down in PHX 'watching and learning' and in be-bops one of those cocky hot-shot jet jockeys who marched through the doors and threw up a shout in the hangar, "Hey, you awesome desert rats got my girlfriend fixed yet?" (He was referring to his ride as his GF) I was in a really cheerful mood to begin with and I looked over at him, and then the Chief, and asked, "Hey Chief, you still looking for a slogan to hang on the wall here? We Will Fix Your Girlfriend!" About the time I said that I also realized knew it was too late for me to shut up ...it doesn't take much to arouse your comrades in letting you know how much they luuuuuuuuv you--and that's ok too š so kind, you guys I learned eventually to watch what slipped out during unguarded jovial moments in shared spaces...
I have been trying to learn how to make videos but to no success but one day I was playing the oldies radio while watching the Hobbit 2 with the volume off the movie -about the time they were about the escape detention by the Woodland King, and had made it to the last gate, Edgar Winter's Free Ride had started playing....I thought I was going to die laughing because the words seemed so appropriate at the time...maybe someone who is tech savvy can have that kind of fun...
The mountain is high the valley is low
And you're confused on which way to go
So I've come here to give you a hand
And lead you into the promised land
So, come on and take a free ride
(Free ride)
Come on and sit by my side
Come on and take a free ride
All over the country I've seen it the same
Nobody's winning at this kind of game
We've gotta do better, it's time to begin
You know all the answers must come from within
So come on and take a free ride
(Free ride)
Come on and sit here by my side
Come on and take a free ride
This domain really IS screwed over technically--I know I tried posting those chopper vids the other day with no success and then tried again with the thought that I finally had posted successfully but now it looks like there's some double vision going on here--really could use the admin broom here for clean-up of extraneous shit if nothing else...hope ya'll aren't sitting on your asses and just taking up space and getting paid for it...
Naw it's gotta be a "what admin?" sort of thing. While I love the whole LOTR thing movies, I was a bit annoyed over the barrel scene myself... that whole sequence was like a masterpiece of Tolkien humor with the dwarves stuck inside and coming out all soggy, beards dripping ... they turned it into a battle scene. (everything was a battle scene..... )
I need some levity. I really do... my grandson was even depressed today, that kid is a deep thinker. I hope he didn't get the bipolar gene that runs through my family.... (actually doing 23andme on him right now) anyway I have a great song and hope this isn't a repeat. That first post reminded me of it...
And one more for you.... loved this, notice the artist and songwriter.

Ozark Mountain Daredevils was a brother's big favorite-good video-TY š
ok here you go--for Levity's Sake--I loathe vandals but this is worth watching for a chuckle that techo music is ANNOYING as hell, though, {{{as usual}}}
R.U. John Connor...LMAO
LOL I've seen the vans in the snow before, that was very clever. I think my favorite was the Ninja turtle's arm coming out of the sewer after that pizza. My son and I used to really enjoy those cartoons. Don't think much of the live action movie.
I've got a mess here, haven't done a darn thing all day. Genealogy is so addictive. Got my selfish little treat back today with my DNA. Plainly great aught Native American granny was consorting with a pirate, what a wide spread bunch of genes! WOW, I have a gene marker for an obscure tribe of people in the general region of New Guinea of all places! LOL. Oddly I'm a quarter Irish, then French then Scandinavian. Mad pirates and Vikings, my ancestors!
Just got the word about the pre-cruse parties too, so I'm feeling a bit like this video now...

one of my favorites--I just watched Xanadu again a couple weeks back--I personally feel that one needs the occasional dose of that to keep walking on air š
I just stopped by an antiques store in the middle of the country this past sunday and bought all of their blacklites (4 on hand) for a mere 2.00 each-those things can be a bit expensive--but I wanted to smoke some incense and slip back into the musical path a little ways...and so I did š Gypsy was one of those bands that my oldest brother brought me up on ... he would play the 8track in the car on the way to school before putting my youngest brother and myself out onto the jr high lawn and he and the older one headed for the high school campus--talking about gunning engines, he wasn't over fools hill at that age but we enjoyed it anyway--but he doesn't get into this sort of stuff anymore...oh maybe rare occasionally...outside the country music path he decided to take (I suppose growing into the law enforcement field can change a person in a lot of ways--mostly good)..
The right decision may be disguised
What's right before you is too clear for your eyes
Ask them... they'll follow you ...and maybe soon ...believe
Tell them, they'll think it's true.... no matter what you do
It's so strange I keep falling time after time
Did I find maybe tomorrow
If I'm still feelin' I'll change my mind
Change my mind
I maintain... the best I can
If I change, who'll know who I am?
Judged by appearance may mislead
The truth is hidden not what it seems
Ask them.... they'll follow you.... and maybe soon ....believe
Tell them,... they'll think it's true.... no matter what you do
what the hell...one good tune deserves another....or what was that again?
Every Good Boy Deserves FLAVOR..
Six days of runnin' I've been trying to make it home
And they pursue me till they get back what I stole
Mistakes I've made will follow me home
They won't be paid till I'm dead and gone
I know they're closin' in I feel them close behind
I just can't shake 'em;
It's as if they knew my mind
Mistakes I've made will follow me home
They won't be paid till I'm dead and gone
I won't make it home
I've already been shown
I won't see another day or it's gone
I'm pushin' hard 'cause I'm so afraid of dyin'
I've got to make it home to see her one more time
Mistakes I've made will follow me home
They won't be paid till I'm dead and gone
Till I'm dead and gone
Till I'm... dead and gone
I fell in this hole
Nothing but darkness there
I lost all control
Believing I'd die there
Then you came into my life
Picked me up when I thought I was lost
And now I'll keep you, no matter what the cost
I just couldn't breath
The air was too thin up there
I wanted to leave but nobody seemed to care
Then you came into my life
Brought me hope so I could see my way
And now my life's changed in so many ways
I've been fooling myself, thinking that I... could make it all by myself
That's living a lie
Then you came into my life
Picked me up when I thought I was lost
And now I'll keep you, no matter what the cost
I won't make it home
I've already been shown
I won't see another day or it's gone
I'm pushin' hard 'cause I'm so afraid of dyin'

Wow that is really good, and Iāve never heard of them before. I love the coverā¦. Munchen or something like that (that art-deco so popular in the 60s)ā¦ we have that poster here, and I need to re-frame it.
They are really goodā¦. A bit like the Moodies, or the Moodies are like them BUT thereās a dash of country in there too, so I suspect itās from the 80s. Country got real popular with my set in the 80s (I was military then) so I lost track of popā¦ Iām not sure I can follow up that with a song. Iāll have to think about it.
I gotta go on my walkā¦ there is ash falling from the sky tho so maybe Iāll wait. I hate sucking that stuff. Mt. Rainier is on fire I guess. A shame, there are a lot of nice little places up there, hope they donāt burn up.

I've got the Beatles channel on Sirius right now for free, and heard this on there today. It was a first for me... probably very old hat to the Brits however. This is sure to offend somewhere. I think it's sorta funny... no doubt about it Donegan had some talent, but dang he mangled Justin's songs.... I'm still having nightmares over that version of "London in Behind Me" with both of them. Not bad hoe down music for an Englishman. š
I got a big kick out of this too! It was a clearer copy on the radio, loved the lyrics, but I love this live boot too, listen to the way they hit it. Obviously revenge for the bombing they had to put up with as kids. You can hear all three guitar lines really well too.
where have I heard the name Lonnie Donegan before? I can't remember...?
not bad, tho...
Lets see if I can post this without doing a double take (actually I realize now faulty posting occurred during the act of so doing through my android--I have concluded that they're just too small for such activity)...

Back in my {quite} young day, I ranked Gypsy up there with the likes of Marshall Tucker, The Guess Who, Malo, Moody Blues, Flash, Strawbs, Spirit, Traffic and Quicksilver--although their sound indeed imparted a ā like the Moody Blues music -psychedelic flavor-but more towards the folksy orientationābut most definitely a progressive music band, of which I noticed Justin Hayward waving off in the latest interview on his site that the Moody Blues have been nothing of the sort (to which I of course, will contest, for argument sake, that ALL music is progressive-- the direction you're going with it matters not, because the movement of music-sound- its action is that of **procession** from the core of sound itself, regardless of the point from which it began to emerge.
And, if I observe correctly, the Moody Blues WERE in fact, grooving right along with the āprogressive effort, whether {{hewanna}} admit it or not (personally I think the ole chap is no different than any other red-blooded rascal {as Graeme likes to call em}: every now and then one gets a burr in his or her cap towanna argue something, LOLā¦) So, agreed--In some aspects their music and the Moodyās can be compared similarly, so it would also not be difficult to imagine a cluster of āMoody-Gypsy Gigsā on the loose during a tourā¦.hehā¦would that ever happen? Probably not. So, thank goodness for what we do haveā¦.
Malo had a laid back jazzy noise that blended in with the mix of music we enjoyed
Speaking of Quicksilver (messenger service it was later called), Spindrifter (instrumental) was always a great tune to mellow out with ā¦
Gypsy sprung up in 1970 with Gypsy Queen in the autumn of that year, tho they had been around a few years between the early and late 60s under the group name, āUnderbeatsā...

I was about 12 or13 when I first heard their unique sound and I thought, āgolly geeze - this is greeeeaaaat!ā Most of the rock music I was brought up on I first heard sounding out from my oldest brotherās vehicleā¦.They recorded also āIn The Gardenā which I have heard less than half dozen times and of course every progressive band back together then had to have an "Antithesis" in their discography maybe once or twice...Then there was their last : Unlock The Gates. But have always loved Gypsy (debut); itās just dynamite (2 vinyl set).

I'll have to come back to this.... too much tonight... oddly I have to be in the mood for listening to new music. I'm in word bird mode right now. The first album, that's a painting of Popo and the Sleeping Lady. They are two volcanoes that overlook Mexico City, and darn if I know the story that goes with it. Very romantic.
Firebird.... yes we all know this Fantasia 2000 video WELL in this neck of the woods. Mt. St, Helens, my crazy brother was up there on the mountain a few days before it blew, and I drive by it often, when I head down to Oregon. The bird in the animation was cribbed from Marvel comics "Dark Phoenix" series, which were done back in the mid 80s. Like the video, Mt. St. Helens has been a fascinating study for all naturalists here since it blew in 1980 or so, much of it has recovered very nicely. This is a rain forest here, from Humbolt to the BC border. If you don't believe me, come help me hack back my yard, it's a jungle out there.
Odd how volcanoes get into literature. I know some good Madame Pele stories too, she's the Hawaiian volcano goddess, one of my favorites.
The original Firebird story that goes with the ballet is marvelous, very Russian. I'll go scan around and see if I can find some of it. Firebird Ballet is a signature production for the Harlem Ballet. The music and the story of the Firebird is just beyond fabulous, I found a few clips of it. I did the costume design once long ago too, still have that painting around here somewhere. It was all flame and draping feathers... this Russian gal is too stiff. I couldn't find the original cast of the Harlem Ballet, the Firebird, and both Prince and Princess were super tall people, and it was all long arms and legs and exotic make up. Saw it long ago.
There was a time I could have done all the stuff this chorus is doing, but I'm too old now and have no endurance.
It's always nice to hear that mellowed out piece Justin Hayward sings...yeah you DO need to be in the right space, the right place and the right frame of mind to listen to a lot of music at once. One of my favorite films here (Rigoletto 1993), but someone made a montage out of the scenes in it to the music of Beauty and The Beast (of which I am not familiar with)--still, I think they did a great job--I like it, after all....
I've seen parts of this movie... it's the ancient theme of Beauty and the Beast... goes all the way back to Cupid and Psyche myths. I'm fond of the Beauty and Beast animated movie done by Disney, and my spies tell me the live action version is good too, haven't seen yet. Quazimodo, etc. More beauty inside that outside.
I always feel sorta sorry for the "beautiful people" crowd, they are continually chasing this "youth and beauty" nut (and that is what we have pushed at us from television too), out there having face lifts, worried about how expensive their clothing is. Anorexic for beauty. I feel sorry for the fan who falls in love with ANY celebrity because they are pretty and then lose interest if the object of their infatuation gets old, or has an accident that messes them up. Our externals are no indication as to what is inside, that's for sure.
I was always more a Little Mermaid type myself. Good music and voices in that too. "The seaweed is always greener in somebody else's lake..."
I'm sorta here now... despite hearing some awesome Ravel on the way home today...
OH ok... I found that Ravel piece. Listen to this. Only Ravel could get away with being this abstract, and still writing really really REALLY beautiful music.

Yeah, it is-with a definite twist of Phantom of the Opera theme woven directly into it--why I like it better than B&B--

QUOTE
Set during the Depression-era is a retelling of the famous opera 'Rigoletto', putting one into the mind set of Beauty and the Beast with almost biblical undertones. In Rigoletto, a reclusive and wealthy man with a disfigured face named Ari Ribaldi moves into the old and long time abandoned mansion on the hill. The people of the city of Castle Gate below are suspicious of him because many of the area stores have been foreclosing recently, but when 13-yr-old Bonnie Nelson goes to work at the mansion in efforts to prevent her own home from going into foreclosure, she discovers that he is a musician, singer, and even a voice coach. She eventually convinces him to teach her to sing better, as singing is her talent and passion. As he does, Bonnie sees true beauty beneath his horrible face and posture; meanwhile, her friendship changes his angry and unapproachable nature. Through befriending Ribaldi, she learns not to judge him, or any other person, by their appearance. When strange, unexplainable things begin happening in Castle Gate, rumors begin to circulate that Ribaldi is somehow responsible for not only the foreclosures, but the strange happenings as well. The townspeople's distrust grows into prejudice and even hatred, and the situation slowly grows to a head...

Yeah, you can't help but feel badly for that sort--espccially after everything falls away and they have no value towards what remains...the real thing
--EXACTLY. I'll give an ugly duckling a fair chance any day over the other racquet--not that good genes are a bad thing-they're not--it's as you say--what lies beneath the heap is the real subject
