Hey everyone! I'm a 49-year-old guy from the Midwestern USA who's recently rediscovered scads of wonderful Prog Rock (Yes, Dream Theater, Rush, older ELO). Back in the day, a friend and I spun Long-Distance Voyager and The Present like there was no tomorrow. Much older now (and much wiser), I'm preparing to acquire the band's complete catalog and dive right in.
Cheers!
Brian
Hi Brian, nice to meet you. I'm on the "trailing edge of the Baby Boomers" and was a freshman in high school when Days of Future Passed came out. Moody fans are all ages. You have a lovely journey in front of you to find all the good Moodies music.... have a good trip!
LDV is one of my favorites. I was pregnant with my son (who is now in his mid 30s and has children of his own) when it came out.... I played it a lot too. Picked that vinyl up in San Diego. Different times...
Don't mind me and leslee, we just sorta come here and wander around saying weird things when it gets slow and lonely in our lives. Not unlike others
Just out of curiosity, where are you in the world? I live near Seattle now.
I'm very fond of MO what I've seen of it. My great grandfather was born in MO and had quite a colorful life, my genealogy leads back through there. I stopped in a place called Butler MO because I'm a Heinlein fan.... you're right, it's very rural, but nice that way. Visited KC last time Justin played there. Trying to track the Hawkins family.... that sort of thing. Anywhere near Rolla? My folks hailed from northern Oklahoma, and the two states I've found are very similar.
Hi All,
Longtime reader of the boards, but never felt compelled to comment before. Luna and Leslee, thank you for keeping this board alive. I do so wish others would rejoin this little community too, its a great place, and probably the first discussion group people see when looking for tickets for concerts through MBT. Luna, just wanted to say l read forums on Blue Heaven and really enjoy them. Rock on, everybody. Saying It with Love. ?
Why how nice of you! Thanks for the good words. I don't generally post here a lot unless leslee is starting a discussion .... I'm often not sure what purpose it serves, there is no moderation (if there is, the Moodies aren't getting their money's worth) and most Moody fans interact over on Facebook. leslee mostly has trouble with her older computer system, and there aren't worms on here like infest Yuku and Facebook. Thus we toss stuff around when bored.
The Spanish pornographer blew my mind.... that's just disgusting and I can read just enough Spanish to feel soiled. Might even have legal implications if it's left there or gets worse.
Yes it IS the first discussion spot that many find when they do a search on the band. It's a shame it has the personal attacks and porno stuff... but that seems to be where it's going right now. If the Moodies don't care, then neither do I. (shrug) We used to have a code of conduct, but it was ignored and the personal attacking was wild and free. You'd think people (especially seniors as so many of us seem to be) would find love and peace in the music, but I guess they don't.
Indeed rock on.
OK, so as promised I thought I would introduce myself a little further. Soon to be a 60 year old... (my own opportunity to experience "the sixties" all over again!) I am a mother of two adult children and one cute as a button grandson. Am I maybe biased in some way? Nah! Struggling with health issues... Aren't we all at this age? I spend my time reading a lot and doing cross stitch, visiting with friends or keeping up by phone. Not much for social media. Have been listening to the Moodies for 45 years. Not often found at concerts, most of my experience has been via vinyl, cassette, 8 track, CDs and now MP3s or whatever they are called.
Rock On, Everybody!
There are a LOT of Moody sources out there. Some gang up and have a little clatch of friends... all sorts of interesting social stuff in the fan base. I turned super fan in 1991, long story. I'm really careful with diet and walk a lot, two years older and seem pretty healthy (on some pills) yea the bod starts wearing out and you just have to endure it.
Are you an Outlander reader? I'm on the fourth book now, and read an episode last night about a 1) rattlesnake 2) a privy and 3) two red headed lads and about laughed myself sick. I really recommend it to all readers who just want to relax and escape in the evenings.
The concerts are a whole different level. I love to travel (semi retired) so I'm doing it while I still can... just me and it's great, not having to put up with a ditzy husband (I was married for five years, but he was very immature.) It's very nice to see the shows night after night and see how it progresses, develops, how the lighting changes, the tech, the other fans... it's all part of an extended show.
Yeah.... got a serious taste for the live show, for sure. Fan girl stuff is very very fun
Not an Outlander fan I am afraid. Don't know much about it. I usually pick something off the shelves at the library... Fiction or non-fiction depending. But usually not much science fiction/fantasy. When I find an author I like I generally read through whatever they have.
Cozy mysteries sometimes. Not into any kind of violent stuff. Have read Lynn Kurland's Medieval Time Travel series though. Lots of fun. Admitting to really enjoying authors like Danielle Steel too. Interesting how we all have our favorites. Tell me more about Outlander though.
I am *trying* to watch what I eat, its not easy. I try to walk some every day. I am a very quiet person though as a general rule. I applaud your getting out and traveling when you can. You are right in saying the touring won't go on forever. Carpe Diem. For the moment, I am simply enjoying armchair touring through everybody else's eyes and accounts.
Outlander (and the series.... some 15 books I can figure at this point) begins with a WWII nurse who falls through a time warp in a stone circle in Scotland and travels backward 200 years. Meets up with some very wild Scotsmen.... the story has some pretty gnarly and somewhat kinky moments in it (whipping, rape and such.) I don't normally go for raunch like this, but I enjoy the sheer soap opera quality, and the historical tidbits (which seem quite accurate) also she's just a good adventure writer, excellent command of the English language. Quite a bit of romance in it. The family has worked their way to the Carolinas in America now, and I'm intrigued as I have my own ancestry that comes from lower Scotland and traveled to Augusta, then to Alabama (married Indians.) There's a pirate or two tossed in for flavor.
I've lain awake a few nights reading it, just to find out what happens next. The main character is a nurse, then a doctor, and has a slight mystical edge "shaman" type of stuff. Four books down, a few more to go.
I guess there is a whole fan group of people (mostly women of course) out there who are totally obsessed with the series and the first two novels have been serialized on the telly. I haven't caught up with those yet.
It does not help that my Ex was exactly what the main male character is, a tall red headed mostly Scotsman.
It all started prior to the Scottish uprising with Bonnie Prince Charlie c. 1745 (when the clans and tartans were abolished by the English conquerors) and we are now working up to the American Revolution, and have already had a few interesting (and fairly authentic) brushes with the local natives.
Thank you for sharing that. I might look into it. As aforementioned, I do truly highly recommend Lynn Kurlands Medieval Time Travel series, if you like that sort of story. It is about two different families, one English, one Scottish, as they stumble through portals back and forth through time from their own period to ours. You have to begin at the beginning for best effect but each one can be delightful on its own. You get to know the families, and grow quite fond of them. Not so violent, but definitely swordfighting, etc. Try one and see what you think. Hoping you and everyone had a Blessed Easter.
When you stumble into Scottish genealogy, you're in for a wild ride. I've got a bit of a soap opera going in my own ancestry.... gotta iron that out, so far it's just a bunch of scribbled posted in my kitchen. They were really good at keeping it all recorded, really amazing. On the German side tho, very hard to sort out because it's all in German of course. And in northern Germany, whence THAT side of the family.... they went through wars too, but a lot of it was destroyed. So they are tough to track.
Medieval isn't so interesting to me.... but I may give it a try. I'm mad about the 18th century, I have no idea why, but I track down Darwin stories, and I love the tall ship movies. I'm still not through all the Jane Austin books! (ok well that's 19th century)
Shakespeare is awesome too, for historical stuff.
Geneology and history is fascinating and can evoke a lot of feelings and emotions in all of us, especially in our own family trees. ?
I want to respond to something else I saw on Blue Heaven, and I have more to say on this subject so I may email you later today or tomorrow. ? Not sure this Introductory thread is the place for it. ?
Anyway, everybody have a great day.
Rock On!
Hi Leslee,
I am signing off too, but it's got nothing to do with you or anyone else who posts here for that matter. It's just something I've decided I need to do for myself. However, you can't accept all responsibility upon yourself, because none of us are perfect, we are all works in progress.
We have all said things we have regrets about at least once in our lives. At least I know I have. But I cannot own what anybody else says or does, and neither should you. I can only own my own words and my own mistakes. And I am doing that. And working on changing myself from within. Every day of my life. Every day is a new day to do it better than we did the day before.
If you enjoy posting, then continue to post. Don't let anyone else determine for you what you should or should not do.
This music is about peace, love, friendship, forgiveness, fellowship, understanding and tolerance. We've all had a remarkable 50 year journey with a remarkable band. Let's all just celebrate that and reflect upon that for awhile, each in our own way. To those of you attending shows, I look forward to reading your reviews. I hope you all have a wonderful time.
Rock on everybody. And to all those on here to purchase tickets, I hope you all have an incredible concert experience to cherish for the rest of your lives.
Wishing everyone peace and love and a wonderful 2017. ?
Bluejay, over and out.
I feel absolutely no guilt for anything posted on this board, or anywhere else I've posted for that matter. And I accept no responsibility for those bent out of shape about it. Blue Jay and leslee of course you know where to find me.
I think the point being missed here is, you are either here to chat pleasantly or you are here to talk about the Moodies. People who can't stop the mean spirited behavior (over 10 years now) have issues. As I'm not being paid to troubleshoot their noggins, I'll leave it at that. They can go home (or elsewhere on the nets) and bully someone else if they need a fix... because I make a lousy target.... I'm just liable to bully back.
Stuff happens.
