Also thought I'd put up something from the coolest Christmas Eve I can remember, the one where we watched Apollo 8 circle the moon. Younger people don't understand, that until Apollo 8 captured the photos it did, we had no idea the Earth looked like that from a distance. It was quite a revelation. It was also a big deal (shocking!!!) for them to read from the Bible, but as our family discussed it (we aren't a very churchy bunch), we figured if they were that high up, and that far away from their families on Christmas Eve, they were entitled to read anything they darn well pleased on public television.

Anyway I found quite a few nice videos of this on youtube, I'll put one up that has some good photography stuff in it.

I saw a fleet of golden gallions when I was sitting comfortably, but I'm only pretending it's all about MEEEEEEEEEEE, dreaming about my imaginary friend. But wait. What if I'm only imagining he is my imaginary friend - or what if I don't exist to imagine him. At least I think I must be. What were we talking about?

Imaginary friends.

Some worth to that. I suspect most gals who lust for Justin wouldn't have the slightest idea how to relate to him. When I dig into the research, I'm continually amazed at Justin's good horse sense, and active lifestyle. And intelligence.

I bet all those ghosts and imaginary "Justins" out there in fan's heads are only shadows of the real thing.

Galleons were filled with slaves as rowers.... the Spanish were quite cruel in this practice...... don't press my buttons, but the history of ships in itself is quite fascinating, and one I must delve into someday. Read 1421 yet? (John recommended it)

Mmmmmmmmm. Visions of imaginary Justins dancing in my wee little head. Wake me up when the wolves come out to play - here at Laughing Pines.

How progressive. Did their First Lady develop the program to reduce BMI and combat the obesity crisis to forestall onset of Type 2 diabetes amongst low-income minorities in the way back when? This is exciting!

Might you recommend some good volumes on techniques for stowing away as a wench on cruise ships?

Wenches must be forced to lift and lower cargo... alas

The First Lady ain't got nuthin' on me when it comes to dieting I assure you. Carbs salt and caffeine, all very very evil for adults. However, she needs to stop hassling youngsters, as they NEED all that stuff to be healthy young people. Honestly who the heck did she consult for this program??? (no pediatricians, that's for sure!!!) Of COURSE the Fed needs to butt out of school programs. Looking back, the only worthwhile thing done like this was President Kennedy's initiative on physical education. Kennedy was not my hero, but he had his moments, as do all presidents.

"The welfare of humanity is always the alibi of tyrants".

Where were we before I had to defend my objectivist mindset? don't you dare call me progressive! (liberal yes at times, progressive ... bite your tongue!) OH yeah.... I'm sorta into Spanish colonialism right now... I read this rockin' book *Captain from Castile* the author really did their homework. Some minor inaccuracies... but basically the epic of Cortez conquering Mexico. These cycles have mixed histories. Columbus, Cortez etc etc.... were yeah heroic, in the same sense that General Custer and Andrew Jackson were. They killed a lot of Indians, but of course, the Indians killed a lot of them too. Those times were tough. My Indian ancestors shot back at ol' Jackson I'm happy to report.

Yeah, the colonial Spanish continued the noble tradition started by the Romans, of grabbing up anyone who couldn't defend themselves, and chaining them to an oar. Didn't you ever see Ben Hur? The Spanish landed in America, and immediately indentured the locals... galleons were powered by a bunch of poor devils in the hold, rowing rowing.... Englishmen too, didn't you ever read Horatio Hornblower?

BUT if they hadn't, the world would not be as it is today...............

here's a little taste of a REAL actor.... it's hard to imagine that just five years later the same man played Captain Ahab. Gregory Peck in that uniform is enough to make you say "Justin whoooooo???" Another movie I really have to track down a copy of, youtube doesn't seem to have a complete version of it. Yeah, ol' Peck rescues some of his crew out of a Spanish galleon at some point... Englishmen chained to Spanish oars.

So, I am not a wench for doing it willingly?

Surely I told you about the food pyramid. As cornerstones, we have the four food groups: salt, partially-hydrogenated vegetable oil, high-fructose corn syrup, and chocolate. Topping it off, since we are to eat them sparingly, is one eye.

I was on Planet Rhonda, but I had to get home like real quick.

Just one a day. Thow an eye of Newt in the pot for your neocon soup. Look kindly on the Progresso camp. I used to like their minestrone soup.

I like Old Hickory. Remember the Legends & Lyrics show in Nashville? Waiting in line forever. His portrait hung in a room off to the side. The lights were out, so he was barely visible through the glass. I kept looking up at it from the pages of a book I was reading. I was hoping to get a glimpse of our hero passing through, but that's another story. Anyway, AJ was the last president to pay off the debt, and he was an enemy to the Fed.

My question is what good the oars are on a crystal sea - is it like curling or something?

Ol' Hickory was a tough nut, no mistaking it. But he was one of these cut throat types, like Cortez..... charismatic, but frankly quite similar to our present leader.... using his glamor to get in office, then did as he pleased, trashing the White House, cronyism, land development schemes etc etc. Jackson removed my tribe (and the Cherokee) to Oklahoma ILLEGALLY against the ruling of the Supreme Court, but with the considerable backing of land developers (who were drooling for all that improved farm land the Indians left behind, so they could plant cotton and make a fortune). (Davy Crockett dressed him down and quit Congress as I recall, over it). Jackson is no friend to the Indians, and even today, many Native American casinos won't use $20 bills in their establishments. Custer was another very similar type, thought he was put on Earth to do as he pleased, use people, destroy things in the name of his own glory, and the Indians caught up with him (good).

Besides that I have evidence that Jackson was a horse thief, and a slaver. Davy Crockett was a true hero when you dig into it, but alas he was turned into a cheesy Disney character. The truth is obscured in children's tales. Even more sinister, many of the Native American leaders Jackson removed were his Masonic brothers. No, not a nice guy at all.

OK you've successfully dragged me off topic.... how fiendish.

What sort of New Year plans do we all have!???

I plan to figure out how to walk through the imaginary doors my imaginary friend is opening. Right. I'll be working around the clock. The boss comes out of the nursing home tomorrow. I have too much to do. After housesitting two months, the lyric, "Clean this mess up else we'll all end up in jail," comes to mind.

I might go look for *Saving Mr. Banks*.......... there's a connection to New Year..... I can't remember which book it was, but in one of the Mary Poppins' books there was a story about a crack they could slide through between the first chime of 12 o'clock and the last chime.... on New Year's Eve. And the animals all talked.... gosh I should go track that down. It was a nice concept.... seems like all their toys and such had slid through this crack and were having a party. Mary took them through... Travers was quite an interesting lady, speaking of doors of the imagination........

Maybe I'll just settle on *Nanny McPhee* for the evening, then go watch the Seattle fireworks from my lawn. Bundle up in my Adak Anorak.

Life would be easier if my boss' dog could talk.

Is that what they mean about education systems that let children fall through the cracks?

I always enjoyed dropping through cracks. You can't believe the freedom down at the bottom... ;)

"There's a hole in reality through which we can look if we wish" .... that's in a Steinbeck book, but I don't know where he got it. He used it just before the Doc wandered out on the beach of Pacific Grove and met the faux John Muir camped out there.

I assure you, the ones failing often take ALL your time because they are so scatterbrained, you spent all your time managing them. No one falls through the cracks if they can pay attention, and that's something parents don't bother to reinforce these days. Generational airheadedness, reinforced by hopping colorful items on a screen. A poacher is going to come along and capture them with the bright flashy object if they don't stop playing video games..... there's an idea for a sci fi plot, eh?

I drifted out a LOT in school (watching birds out the window if you must know), but was always able to bring it back into focus when the chips were down. That was reinforced by knowing my butt would be paddled if I brought home low grades.

Dogs DO talk, you just have to know their language. But if you're trying to teach them to speak English, some things just aren't feasible I'm afraid.

TV babies?

Oh, how I wish I could have a mind pure as the driven snow like my imaginary friend's, rather than this dumbed-down Fagenesque sardonica.

Alas! I don't watch birds. I only have eyes for my imaginary friend.

I spent the most lovely morning watching the Rose Parade.... that's on my bucket list, to go sleep out and see the parade. Never found anyone to do it with.... I'd be sitting with the Cal Poly students, cheering!!!!!!!!!! :) Go find it on youtube, it's always worth watching, and a lot prettier than the Macy's Parade.

Think I'll turn off the computer and go wander around the house cleaning up, filing, sorting papers.... it IS New Year.... time to get those accounts in order!

I worked a fourteen hour shift, and got paid for 8. I think that is going to be the new normal, but at least it's predictable AND the boss said something about a bonus for last year, and I will randomly get a couple hours off in the evening to walk the boss' dog and run personal errands. Life is good. I'm not whining, because I will be just as unreasonable when it comes to demanding time off for, ejem, tours.

Great. My question is 1+1. Do I take the simple scalar arithmetic route or the "Ride-My-Seesaw" one.

Hmmmm. Everything's coming up roses again, which makes me think of Pasadena and how nice it would be to be there once all my former classmates bale out.

Everything's coming up sugar here! OU won the game... I won't bore the rest of you, but it did seem to be a bit gleeful on the part of all those big tackles each time they sacked poor Alabama's quarterback. My goodness. I went over and watched the game with Dad, as I don't have cable at the house. He's the OU alumni not me!

If you're in Oklahoma tonight, you'd better stay home, 'cause there's a lot of drunks on the roads I suspect, including the cops.

Where did you go to school?

Always consider the pros and cons of each job, and it's not always monetary. "Follow the money" is often a good standard, but there is more in life than money.

Just think of the resources you get to use.

I only get mad about money if someone tries to cheap me out and I know they have plenty of dough. Remember, time is money... but flex time is also nice, and I do that too.

1. I like watching football players fly. I wish I could do that. Every game but one that my boss watched with me present went into OT at the last minute resulting in a reversal of the lead.

2. Oklahoma snow, or just Oklahoma in general, reminds me of the time I drove out west for Moodies shows. It would have been all good were it not for the snow in OK. The road was closed at the TX line. As I recall, the sun was out. It wasn't snowing, but every so often the wind would pick up and blow the powder over the snow fences. It froze in wicked ways once it landed on the road. I called it spooge. Once one drove into it, it had control. Trucks were spinning and losing their cargo, and nobody dared stop to try to help. When I got to the other side of it, I had to manually reset my jaw. I ended not attending the Prescott show, not because the snow detained me so much as I forgot AZ didn't do Daylight Savings Time. I could have made the show at least in part. Instead, I spent the night in Holbrook and the next morning had the most spiritual experience of my life to date. It was nothing glam, just going to church and feeling really close to God. I've run a long way in the other direction since, regrettably.

3. Larkshire Elementary, East Farmington Junior High, Farmington Harrison High, Michigan State (5 years), U of M Dearborn, Albion, AB Tech, UNCA, and some little schools. I have been in the school of hard knocks for fifty years, but have yet to pass a single EOG.

4. I yearn for creative time, education time, and exercise time. More money would be nice, too.

5. Nice computer, yes.

6. Time to go.

AH Michigan! I've always felt kindly toward them, we used their fight song when I was on drill team.... I think our band leader was MI alumni. I'm sorry I backed Stanford now.... even though I'm more closely affiliated with them. (Was on the edges of a psych study with them once, eating disorders, interesting stuff)

YEAH I spun out (ice) in OK once in my Pinto..... Okies all drive like bats out of Hades and the troopers were wise in their actions, because all Okies think they can drive in such stuff..... huge country egos. Even chains are no help in that sort of thing. OK has nice moments too. Many good childhood memories... catching frogs and turtles...

I was just remembering (it was a complex game!!!) OU last night they (we) have a thing we do, holding your index finger up like "Number one!" the refs were penalizing them for unsportsmanlike conduct, thought it was the wrong finger going up!!! Dan Brown fans will realize it's also a "prayer" thing.... goodness, what a wild game!!!! Enhanced where I was by some wandering dementia folks.... I'm still a little muddled this morning.... I got home at 10 pm which is late for me, and sorta staggered around putting groceries away feeding dog.... :P

Gotta go put out the trash. Had to haul THAT in last night, 'cause the trash is off a day, what with holidays. Raccoon knock it over sometimes... That's me, the domestic type...Confused

I hate domestics. I just like enough to stay warm and fed, though I eat mostly in the car. I'd rather be on the run, a gypsy or an explorer. But I can't. Everything's explored already, and I'm not independently wealthy.
