Yay. I love spring. We had forsythia on one bush. Another shrub had white flowers on it, but I couldn't tell if they were coming or going.

The crocuses have now opened. They're beautiful, a lovely shade of slightly pink lavender graded to brilliant, glowing white with the yellow-orange middle. Glorious perfection.

The wood is wick, and there's a sense of color instead of bleakness.

The official temperature here is 74oF, it's sunny, and the titanium white in the lavender crocuses is knocking me out.

A kid and I were out at recess the other day, and we heard a CROoooaaakk in the bushes. He thought it was frogs, I thought it was a salamander (newt, we have red newts here) Too cold to walk tonight. I'll go tomorrow. We expect snow Sunday will expect it when I see it.

The EVO! and I saw yuge bird footprints. It could have been from a pheasant, which is a sign of fall. There were also what looked like fork prints in the mud. I told myself somebody was making mud pies and wanted the air to escape.

A robin sings outside the window. It's still pitch black outside.

No snow but very nippy this morning, heater on.... I have days I don't need the heater however, which is good.

We have lots of mud, and transparent pink worms working their way onto the dry sidewalk. I often pick worms up with twigs and throw them on the grass, but these looked so sick, I didn't know if they had a disease or what. I probably made another terrible mistake by leaving them.

I pulled six ticks off The EVO! after our evening walk. Now, I'm all creepy-crawly. It may be a couple days before I get a bath.

I suspect our earthworms are all frozen here, the poor devils.... and mushy pink. I saw castings on my front lawn a week back, then the snow the wind doom destruction hurricanes.... ugly weather we're having. Yes I try to toss the worms back into the grass too, they come up when the ground is too wet.

Ticks are horrible creatures. Allegedly the way to get them off is put a lighted match to them, they don't leave their heads in the hide then. Or put a dab of nail polish on them, where they are muckled on. You might try rubbing EVO! down with Mentholatum, it has camphor and eucalyptus oil and that repels ticks and fleas both.

No ticks on the west coast, or not many anyway whew.

I was pulling them off, screaming, and running outside with each one. (It's too dark and she's too wild to do this outside.) Mr. Bill suggested letting her paraciticides kill them. It's probably best that way. Problem is, The EVO! is my roommate.

I looked online for remedies. DEET seems to be the most effective agent, except I think I would be exchanging (more) retardation from lyme disease for (more) nervous disorders. There are so many cures, they can't all work or else there would be no ticks. Also, I see coconut oil is one of the remedies. It is the latest panacea.

I never saw a tick until I moved down here. Then, I saw one. I used to walk in the woods all the time. Then, I started walking The EVO! and now they're all about. Even when we had warm spells in the dead of winter, she'd pick up a few.

Perhaps I shall get a reputation for clearing peoples' nasal passages.

Look for Campho Pheneek at the store. (that's how it sounds, it might be spelled Campho fenic) it has eucalyptus oil.... repels all pests, fleas etc. Small green bottle. In the skin and/or health care section.

Yea I was thinking Lyme's but didn't want to mention it. We don't have Lyme's out here but I'm still wary. It's the little ticks that carry Lyme's, not the big ones.

We have a big forested area down at the end of my street, and I saw Mr. and Mrs. Eagle doing a mating flight over it the other day. When they eagles are mating, you know it's spring around here, despite the threat of some snow tonight.

It was in the 70s here, which meant the AC came on, so I had to bundle up like a snowman inside. I can't win.

There are cute little birds outside the window. Cardinals and blue jays (my favorites, because I'm a freak for bright colors) like to perch on a branch. I haven't seen any gray jays yet, but they are also beautiful. The EVO! and I saw a big, yellow bird with a strange call high in the treetops a few days ago. I don't think it was Sesame Street.

It was in the 70s again today. I walked The EVO! at dusk beside a river, with a gentle mix of balmy warm and cool breezes, reminiscent of the ravine I used to jog by in Michigan. Though it was still dusk, I could see moon shadows.

We have more sprigs of daffodils, a few pink trees fully in bloom, at least one chartreuse tree, and several trees and bushes with apical meristems ready to go.

We just have a few green sprouts coming up.

It was chaos getting the kids out the door this afternoon.... about 2 pm these little small flecks were hitting us at recess, then we went in and starting working again. I opened the blinds and it was quite a snowstorm.... sent 'em home to waiting buses.... thankfully it didn't settle in on the roads and chains weren't needed.

There WERE some lovely pink cherry blossoms coming out I noticed on the way home. A sure sign of spring.

I'm tucked in here for the night, thinking of some coffee and a nice salad tonight. Just hope the power holds out. Snow still falling. Trash hasn't been picked up for two days either grrrrrrr. Watching Star Trek. It's a lovely Friday night IN.
