Wow lunazure. So, I was thinking about that Seals and Croft song "Summer Breeze" particularly the line "blowin through the jasmine in my mind," then I heard it this morning on Satellite radio, then I log on here and YOU'VE just been talking about "jasmine on the wind." Weird... maybe I should go get some jasmine scent or something. Maybe it'll take me somewhere.
Instead of a weather report, I will write about the snow today. I have heard that Eskimos have lots of words to describe different kinds of snow. This is: Wet snow
falling on the limbs of trees, dressing them up
falling on cars, trickling through the grease and salt
falling on the sleeve of my coat as I stand and watch it melting away.

Peace, peopleSmile

Wow I wasn't even thinking of Seals and Croft, but I love that song. Yeah it was very weird, it's quite cold here.... I never did figure out where the smell was coming from.... it was a school campus I don't usually go to. Very strange.... nothing was blooming near me. Maybe someone was wearing perfume.... it took a bit to identify the jasmine scent. We used to have night blooming jasmine when we lived in Socal.

Black snow? I'm afraid to ask.

It's very lovely at sunset around here, I'm often out toodling in my car about that time. Some of the rose colored clouds as the sun sets are just breath taking, I don't know why. Taking night classes does that to yah....

Yes Esquimaux have like 12 names for snow (makes sense) ... .dry snow like powder is best for skiing in they say (I don't do such crazy things!!!) We mostly get the slushy sort that splats on the windshield as you're driving. :P

I have an early day tomorrow, and many errands to run. .... stay out of trouble, everyone!!!

I really don't have anything good to say about Winter--it sucks when it's bitterly cold!!

Toni

Absolutely right on moodytoni2. I live in Wisconsin and suggest lunazure try it here for a week in January.
It may help her sleep issue, or maybe not....Laugh

Drano is about the only thing that would take care of the sleep issue right now.... I have a pretty bad head cold.

Biggest down beat on winter is it's COLD..... it's the nature of the beast. I suspect there's planets in the Universe which have no seasons like we do, but they must be terribly boring.

Not to put anyone down, but living in Wisconsin is a self inflicted wound when it comes to winter. Stay in and do your needlework when it snows, I guess, and rejoice in the Spring when it finally arrives. My parents got up and left the Midwest for a reason. I'm glad they did. There's always RVs and doing the snowbird thing I guess.

luna! So good to hear from you. I thought I had scared everybody away again.

But one could stay in Wisconsin and brave the awful winters for love of family, purpose of employment, or any number of reasons. That would make them heroes.

Something good about winter: The shortest day is past, and we are almost out of the coldest part of the year. Yay.

My German ancestors moved to Wisconsin and didn't think that the weather was too cold, I guess because our weather is close enough to Germany's. Plus, things were shaky in Germany, as they often were.
My Cornish relatives came here, I think, because they had connections. Well, that and there were few opportunities for them at the time and the English government was giving incentives to get people to just go and find someplace else to live.
I am here because my family is here, I guess. I grew up here and am at least somewhat accustomed to the change of season and all of the other local peculiarities.
My daughter wants nothing better than to go hopefully to California because it is nice and warm and sunny and away from this stupid family of hers. Sigh.
I myself just may move to Cornwall in my waning years. What the hell, go full circle, you know?
Sorry you're not well, lunazure. Have you doped up on Nyquil yet? Sometimes it's the only way to satisfactorily get into the land of dreams... Smile

Alas the strongest thing I've had was whiskey and lemon and honey in hot water. Never tried Nyquil, I think it jacks up your BP. Claritin is the only thing that doesn't screw up BP I've found, and it's not doing the job very well.

Yeah my German ancestors also landed in that general area, in the Kankakee area where they could get a good dose of bad weather off the Great Lakes. My grandfather held a certain contempt for "farmers" and wanted to get out of that cycle.... so he changed direction, went to work for the oil companies. My family is all over the country and apparently we all like it that way.

Many of my cousins live in the sunbelt, Arizona, CA. TX etc they think I'm nuts for being in Seattle. But I love the scenery here, even when it's cold. If my son moved, I'd probably move and follow him, no matter if it was Siberia!!! Laugh

Cornwall is quite temperate I understand. On my list if and when I get to the UK. My British ancestors came from further north, Dumfries, Wales, Ireland etc. I think it would be a kick to retire to Ireland.

Something nice about winter: Cornwall. The gale winds and freak waves can be tough, but they can also be fun. Unlike Justin, I found the south side more romantic, or at least that's where I tromped my ground.

My German ancestors were Meinesingers who lived in Italy. I'm quite happy to have that part of my heritage, and I'm glad they didn't move to Wisconsin. Eek! Amsterdam reminded me of Wisconsin in winter. Double eek!

Everyone seems to go through Amsterdam.... I wouldn't mind a one day visit, but it sounds like a pretty sinful place! :)

Ah der southern Deutsch! My bunch was northern..... big deal in Germany. Man don't press my buttons on genealogy, I have THAT to do too, this weekend... if I get well enough to creep out to the copy store.

Being sick sucks.

A friend gave me the best advice on germs. He said bacteria have lower tolerances for temperature and pH than humans. I therefore skunk them out by sleeping on the space heater, bundled under lots of covers, and eating grapefruit juice, hot peppers, etc. Hot and sour soup with a fistful of pepper helps to break fevers better than anything I know. Take it or leave it.

The only time I was sick enough to miss work was after two weeks of having to sleep in a two-hour and a two-and-a-half-hour shift, and find time to do my laundry in-between. I had chicken pox, mono, laryngitis, and maybe a few other things. I was flat on my back on the bed, I punched the phone buttons with my thumb knuckle as the only part of my body that didn't have a painful pock. In a voice like Rod Stewart whispering, I begged the day off:

"Kenny! I can't come in!"

"You're coming in anyway."

"I can't."

"Oh, yes you can!"

"I can't even get out of bed!"

"Then you're fired."

"THANK YOU!!!"

All true. I rarely get sick, yes because I stay well nutritioned etc. Got to admit the Taco Bell hot sauce in the turkey soup two nights ago was pretty effective, and kicked part of it. No, I know which little darling gave it to me. It's just a virulent little bug which chose me as it's next victim.

No this was just a matter of getting sleep, got about 10 hours last night, and more to come tonight as soon as evening chores are done.

Are you good with taxes? I can make you up some business cards..... I have the system down now, can make them in my own computer. Maybe you need to free lance. I love my job because I don't have to BE there, if I'm sick the night before, I can easily cancel. They understand about "sick" in the schools, I assure you.

I still think you'd be a good teacher's assistant in a math classrooms.... there's a crying need for it. Check with your local school districts, you don't have to work with the little ones, high school kids are usually tolerable. Don't wear short skirts and high heels tho..... I used to have older boys make passes at me! YIKE. Makes ya wonder. All you need is your degree and a clean record and they'll snap you up in a heartbeat.

Something good about winter? "Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius" --Pietro Aretino (found on a box of tea!)

You are probably right lunazure about Nyquil and BP. My BP is low so I guess Nyquil doesn't bother me. Sleep, if you can get it, works wonders.
Yeah, most employers are better these days when you call in with a physical sickness. Try calling in for a mental health reason though. You'll lose you job faster than you can blink an eye.
Seattle is a wonderful city, despite all of it's grey days. There is something to be said for a location besides the weather!
I am in bliss today because a little boy fell asleep on me last night. God, they're cute when they're sleeping!Laugh

I want to live. I don't want to contribute to leviathan government. That's one advantage to where I am now, but the insanity is getting outrageous. One wants to help, but I think I am doing more enabling, and I am not, as The Help, in a position to make suggestions. I had some time off this morning and returned to find the dog had decorated the carpet and eaten half of it, and the boss had skipped his pills. I know I'm not that important. The world will revolve without me, here; but I don't know how to improve the scene.

Nobody is good at taxes. The codes are such that anybody can find anything to sue anybody they want. It could be that the only guys who have money left are those that need to hire stooges like me, too dumb to notice their tax fraud. We're back to the old nobody will hire me unless they need a useful idiot. Seriously, with few exceptions, my honest heroes are all unemployed right now.

I used to call in with a mental illness all the time at my other job. I had fifteen years of seniority, lots of flex time, and nobody else could do my job. In fact, most people knew when my mental illness would be attacking about a month in advance. You see, I have this HUGE crush on a rock star, and I lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-ove seeing him in concert.

Aretino didn't suffer SAD. It was too cold to walk the dog today.

I don't usually mind the grey.... it's a sort of soft gray and the trees look lovely in the mist.... in the fall when the leaves turn, there is a certain yellow against a grey sky that just really makes me almost weep, it's so pretty.

Count your blessings with the low BP. My whole family has "the curse" and it's a constant battle with stress, nerves, over eating etc....

Yes people are very intolerant of mental health issues. Very sad. I did theatre, and then psychiatry for so long, there is NO normal behavior IMHO. Sometimes it's difficult to read what "normal" is to some anal retentive employers. Sometimes it's just best to move on.

Being insane over the Moodies is no different than being a Helmet Guy for your favorite team, and those sorts of folks are allowed to hold very good jobs! I wish I had a nickel for all the Elvis freaks out there, and good heavens, he's dead!!! (are we talking necrophilia? No of course not!) I always explain my Moody love as "we're sorta like Deadheads only we're cleaner"........ no disrespect to Deadheads of course, but people understand that. There are also Kinks fan-addicts out there, very normal lookin' folks too.

yes they are cute at that age, like little puppies. Went to see my grandson yesterday, my brother and his wife wanted to visit.... he's just two, and finally figuring out he should be shy of strangers... so it was bumpy at first, then he and his Dad and my brother started tossing balls and it was all good then. Was over a few weeks ago, the kid got up crying, came charging into the living room.... some noisy sci fi movie was on. He climbed in my lap and went back to sleep.... poor little spud. I can't believe they were letting him watch that movie!

I am weird about letting people destroy themselves with craziness. If one would prefer the buzz of nicotine, or Justin, to a long life, that is their problem. But when the problem starts draining the lives of others, I think something should be done. But when it is the boss asking me to work until my heart goes into arrhythmia and I can't see straight and I'm all jittery - just to organize socks and stuff - I have a hard problem talking back to my elders and superiors.

So I come here to whine, and then, the next day, the boss will go back to hospital, and I'll feel like a potty (not the receptacle, but the contents) because I think how miserable and messed up it must be in his mind. In short, intellectually, I know we should defend truth and love and hold high expectations to give others room to grow. Emotionally, all I know is, "Mommy! Get me out of here! WAAAAAA!"

Something good about winter: Assuming the life of this planet is finite in its "fallen" state, with each passing second of winter, there is less of it to come.

Walking the boss' dog in 57oF weather isn't half bad, either; except the crazy monster has to attack and bark at every other dog or moving thing, and I have to wrestle her, resulting in about one chipped tooth per walk in the park. I'm bigger, but she's faster and more determined. Weighing in around 50 pounds, she has small man's complex. She doesn't want to make friends, just to dominate - at least that's my projection.

Is that why it's so lonely here? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

The dog walkers around here will cross to the other side of the street if they see another dog coming and they know that their dog goes nuts on other dogs. Dogs can be kind of weird that way. I have heard that if you want your dog to not freak out at stuff then you need to expose them to every sort of potential thing that just might freak them out at a young age. Was boss' dog so trained? If not, then it's an uphill battle for you, my friend.
Oh, there is more light in the morning now! And the sunshine today was amazing! It got up to about 7 today and it felt great! Yes, I am becoming accustomed to this, but hell, the winter is so friggin' long! Good the kitties don't know, cause they were all into bein' out there!
I am a cheesehead, therefore I am a Packer fan. Congrats lunazure! Go Seahawks!
Parents can be so dumb... we let my daughter watch "Beetlejuice" over and over when she was only two. Duh. Yes, it was too intense for a child. Duh.
leslee, please don't underestimate what you can do in the position that you're in. If I can do it, you can.SmileSmile

I did it (that position) for about three years I'd say. At some point your gaskets blow.... take care of yourself if you are a caretaker. Yes agree on the barking dog. Remember, your dog is smarter than you think, and the Boss is sick, and she's going to be overly protective. And yes they have to be leash trained early on or they have very bad manners on long walks. Voice of experience here. Consider one of the "gentle" leashes that go over the nose, or a muzzle. Don't let her bite anyone, yeeks!

I love winter because when the sun DOES break through, like it finally did this afternoon around sunset, the colours and sky are just incredible in Seattle. The light was at a gorgeous angle.... alas no camera handy, but I drank it in and enjoyed it all. Still pretty cold tho.

Just do what you can where you can, leslee, and be kind to yourself too, know your limits. You're in a rough spot with a very elderly, scared old fella. And the family is getting a deal I suspect.... I'll write you off line if you want to know what we wound up paying for Dad (voice of an objectivist here.... ). I'm relatively compassionate, but I was trying to heave the old fellah up off the floor all the time, and he wouldn't use a walker or drink fluids so he could maintain balance.... it wore on me physically. So things are better now, I went over this afternoon and they were doing karaoke. It's a fun place he's in.

I feel like such a wuss for getting whiny after fourteen hour shifts. I need to stretch myself. 24-7 with no food is great if I could get time off for Justin concerts. Ha. No exercise drives me BATTY! I do get to read, and, thought I, this is the perfect opportunity to do math. Maybe I could persuade the boss to let me sit on a recumbent bike while I'm tied to this desk. It could be as good as prisoners have it with creativity and imagination. Besides, I'm listening to Rainbow and feeling good. Thanks, Bonnie.

I heard you people were going to get a lot. How did it go? I also heard something about a recent announcement about a terrorist attack at a transformer in San Jose. It reminded me of the aurora we saw.

Something nice about winter? I lost my keys in the park today while walking the boss' dog. One nice guy helped me search the grass for an hour - we walked about a mile and a half - and another guy on a bike found some kids on the other end of the park who had found them, and rode them from one end to another. It was cold and dusky, but the people sure were nice.
