The whole thing was probably an over dub. You find that on the old Moody videos too. It's ok, that's what was on the telly in those days. Yeah the blonde has a wig on. Not sure about the other. We called them "falls" in those days, that sort. Yep one of the reason I don't get fussed about my hair. At least it's my own. Like all my other body parts!!! :) whatcha see is whatcha got with li'l old me. I could mention names and parts.... will be good.

I'm 100% artificial. My hair is dyed. I wear corrective lenses. My front teeth are capped. I wear a back brace sometimes. I wear makeup and sometime use acne medicine. Then, I wear all kinds of clothing to hid my flaws. Some of us are born beautiful. Some of us do what we can so people aren't tortured by their looks. It's all good.

Acne meds don't count. You DON'T want to know what goes on MY skin and where.................... stop the self deprecation now!

I give up........... everyone will just have to wallow in their various forms of misery.

We need some more music! All I can hear right now is some prehistoric woodpeckers trying to take down the giant maple tree next door........

One of my favorite songs.... there's a really nice version by Barry Manilow out there, but I couldn't find it. Frank Sinatra did a nice version too, the orchestration is excellent... but I like this too. It has a really nice lilt, and is what we Americans call "swing" rhythm. I had never heard of this singer, she sounds a bit like a Marlena Dietrich knock off.... one of these days I need to get to Berkeley Square and see if they really do have nightingales. Smile

luna - That's fogey music! Like something you'd play on a phonograph!

I'm listening to the wind in the trees.

OK. I checked out the Karen Oberlin version because she looked more contemporary. I like her hair. I also like the way she interacts with the audience, but her gestures remind me of that episode of "The Partridge Family" where the girl sang, "I left my heart, In San Francisc-O." The music is lame as possible.

OK. Twiggy wins. She actually does something with the song. I didn't know she did anything besides be skinny.

Yeah Twiggy could sing. So could Leonard Nimoy (shudder)

I'll listen to those later. I happen to like fogey music! Retro, swing, blues.... it's an acquired taste probably, but didn't you hear it before the shows? And where do you think rock n' roll came from after all? Yeah our music shall be called "fogey" one day too................. probably right now in fact........

And then, William Shatner was so bad, Moog's April Fool's joke one year presented to the world an auto-detune device. One of the settings was Mrs. Miller. Another was William Shatner. (I'm too underwhelmed by the Hollywood scene to bother looking up the correct spellings of stars' names.)

I heard the music. I enjoyed this one whenever it came up in the rotation. It gives me chills.

"Take Five" grew on me. There was another that, sitting all tired from a long drive, I'd isolate the parts with my eyes closed. It wasn't necessarily pretty, but it was a good exercise for people who relax by analyzing music. Then, there was a song I absolutely hated the first time I heard it. It was at a concert by the BYU Symphony. I remember the conductor saying it was inspired by the streets of Paris. The melody is the same two notes over and over. I don't get it. It bores me to the max, on a par with the "One Note Samba," and "Life Is a Highway."

I needed to tend to the dog. While we were outside, I thought about the opening music some more. At first, I thought it may have been Julie's album they were playing. Beloved fan extraordinaire Gary Pulver was sitting next to me, and he assured me it wasn't her. I would have bought her album if she had been doing all the parts with such perfect emulation. It would be worth studying. I also remembered the drum solo. That is another thing I never got. It's like me going back to the apartment at 2:30 a.m. and trying not to wake anybody up.

Nora Jones is very good, thank you......... a pretty piece. I'll go back and listen to the other ones now... nibbling on a bit of watermelon! ;)

Hmmm Twiggy was a little breathy (her style you gotta say, she looked like she was a drowned rat gasping for air anyway when modeling) but her voice had (has) promise, and the piano backing her up was pretty good. The second singer (Oberlin) went breathy too. I never could stand that in a woman singer, too affected (lalal I'm so dramatic!!!! gasp gasp). Oberlin definitely needs a better back up, and she needed a better dress too, ick (like I should talk with some of my own clothing). Good voice tho.

Take Five is a classic, I love it, and always get up to dance when I hear it. Cool

I was once telling a friend - the only friend who lets me sing along with the radio - what I thought of Olivia Newton John's singing. I said she was too aspirated. I started imitating her, exaggerating. He said it was turning him on. It was very funny. I agree Twiggy had excellent backup. It wasn't necessarily her voice, but the composite.

What else did Justin play before the shows? I'm only remembering the four I mentioned.

I don't remember Take Five! But it WAS all good.

Putting this up for the Fourth. Moody tie in: Fat City used to back up John Denver, and they plus Denver all toured with the Moodies as opening act one year. (John Denver was managed by the same people who managed the Moodies, Weintraub Huelett et al) Anyway somewhere along the line in later years, the girl half of Fat City called Justin up on a radio and said hi... he seemed delighted to hear from her! Not sure I like this recording. Cute song :)

MBD - They were one of the few 90s bands I could handle. The majesty of the big hair bands with their orchestral overload (which I really enjoyed if the harmonies were sonorous) were being replaced by overly simplistic, downer recordings (which pushed me to the keyboard to try to fill the void).

luna - I hate that song. It's got at least four annoying elements: boredom, innuendo, wanginess, and a thing that goes PSHEUWWWWWW.

I'm just listening to background noise, now. I have the following in my mind. It's a real downer, and I don't understand the words. Do they have meaning?

Then, I went on to think of this. I must be dark-siding it this morning. Why?

Anyway, the lyrics are kind of creepy, like a witch's spell. But I love the collection of talented musicians. Not are they only very good in sound, they without exception have assembled an eclectic look. Then, there's the personality factor that shines through the music. Two of my favorite things about this production are the synchronization of the audio with the video. To my acuity, the sound corresponds perfectly with each string bend. I also love the timbre on the guitars.

I may plug in SotWS, now. I want something lighter.

I wish Donovan and Justin would get together and tour or something. Both are so ornery they probably couldn't do it. I love just plain guitar music... no raves.... a personal choice... ya'all have too much energy!!! I'll listen to them later, sewing to do this morning. FAR too much excitement last night!!!

That was pretty. I would not want him to tour with Justin because then we'd have to compete with Donovan fans for seats, venues could raise the prices on tickets, and I wouldn't know who was going to go on first, causing me to possibly miss an hour or more of work. Well, that was selfish, wasn't it?

Besides, Justin shows are good enough as they are. I blame low turnout to weird sales and marketing.

Donovan is pretty good in concert, usually just him, his guitar and a very old amp. He's a very good showman. Maybe they could do an acoustic cruise with both of them, and some other acoustic 60s types. They're out there. Something low key and mellow. I thought about how this "solo" tour was structured, all the high energy songs were at the end, like Question.... something you built up to! High energy music is ok and all, but I prefer a good melody to getting stoned on a heavy thump....

Today, I risked taking Evo to the park. She wasn't ready for it. After lunging and barking at the fifth person, I packed her up to go back to the car. Then, I started whining to myself about how I hate fat legs and how nice and pretty it was outside, so we continued past the car. I don't know if it was an event or random play, but all kinds of people were just casually drifting down the river on rafts and tubes. It was a lovely, tranquil scene. I noticed a lot of groups had roped their rafts together and floated down the river in a clump. I'd never heard of such a thing, but it must be fun. And so I propose that Justin do a solo river raft clump drift down the French Broad with a handful of fans if I can be one.

I'm listening to a YouTube suggestion called Gregorian. It sounded very nice. Then, I got a load of the video. I think I"ll have to watch this one.

They do that on rivers in northern California (Sebastopol?) and also on rivers in France, indeed. Float down on inner tubes. Giggling teens not wearing much, that sort of thing. :)

what am I hearing the call of of the pilated woodpecker..............
